Hi -
I have a half hour video clip and would like to select multiple short clips to use in a timeline, but I can't seem to work out how to have more than one set of in and out points.
What is the best way to achieve this?
I am running Resolve 12.5.4 on a Mac (OS X 10.10.5).

Search in the manual for subclip

Or the new range markers. Takes a few more clicks to make a range marker, but if you have already optimized your media, for some reason, if you make sub clips, you will have to optimize those all over again.

Once you have selected your first clip, right-click on the range you have selected. A drop-down menu will appear and then choose "Convert In and Out to Duration Marker". Resolve then places "Duration Markers" over the "In and Out" points.
Now you are free to choose yet another In and Out range. Continue the process to make as many marked ranges as you want.

Is this only available in the Studio version. In my free version it's grayed out in media viewer window. I can see the option if I drop the clip down into the media pool. By not if it's only in the storage area.

As I only use Resolve Studio 14, I can't answer that question. Maybe someone else can.

You would have to drop the clip into a bin since these marker ranges are project data, not clip metadata.

Why would you need to? Add that segment to the timeline and move on. Job done.

+1 It's called "editing" select in and out points, then insert edit to timeline. Repeat until finished.

I think a few users on the forums would benefit from some basic editing tutorials!

That's what I'm saying. Select a set of In/Out points, add to timeline, repeat until done. No need for multiple In/Out points in the same clip. (Does any NLE offer that?)

I saw editors making smaller clips of the good takes instead of carry the whole full take.

If this is desirable, [subclip] from the menu will help.

Seriously: the subclips remains the best solution because it is the most flexible for those who do not master the scene detection.

Thanks for the informative posts here around converting in/out points to duration markers. I know shift+down arrow goes to the next marker but does anyone know if there is a shortcut to go to the end of a duration marker?
