I did something stupid and now I can't even see Resolve

PostMon Nov 13, 2017 10:54 pm

I decided to hook up another monitor and give myself a little more room in Resolve. Unfortunately, on my system anyway, the dual monitor setup was buggy. The menu's wouldn't even work right whenever I had Windows in extended display mode. I kept turning it off to play with the menus and then back on to see if it would work. Eventually I screwed things up beyond fixing. In Resolve I changed the main display to the other monitor hoping Resolve would show up on it. It didn't. Now I can't even see Resolve at all. I reinstalled Resolve hoping it would reset the preferences but it doesn't. Does anyone know where the preference file is on Windows that I can delete? Maybe I need to uninstall Resolve first? I just want to make sure the database isn't deleted. Kinda jump shy after screwing things up so badly :)

Resolve 14 studio on Windows 10. When I reinstalled I downloaded a new installer from the website. I didn't know you had released 14.1 but that's what it is now. Of course I've never seen it :)

I really hope there is a preferences file I can just delete?

The following procedure will remove ALL your preferences data. It will not affect your project data.

Uninstall Resolve using Control Panel - Programs and Features.

In File Explorer, rename the C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences folder to C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences.old

Note: C:\ProgramData is a hidden folder. If you don't see it in File Explorer, you need to go into Control Panel - File Explorer Options and select to show hidden files/folders.

Now reinstall Resolve and do the Quick Setup.

Now it should launch successfully. Check in Preferences that things are as desired. In any event, Save the preferences, whether you change anything or not.

If your Resolve database was the normal default Local Database, it will be there. If you had any other databases, you'll need to Connect to them in the Database area.

That worked man, thanks!

Have you had any other users run into issues when running a dual monitor setup? Like the menus not working? When I clicked on them I got nothing, at least until I set Windows to duplicate the displays instead of extend. Then again it's 14.1 now so maybe it's fixed. Kinda scared to try though :)

Renaming Preference to Preference.old

PostMon Feb 05, 2018 9:13 pm

Thanks for the tip to rename the Preference folder.

This also resolved my problem that Resolve 14.3 would not start after the initial screens.

I did a full re-install chnged the Preference folder and Resolve is working again!

Hello,

I am quite new with DaVinci Resolve. I do not know what I did today but I am not able to use Fusion anymore.
I followed the suggestions written in this thread but I still have the same issue (picture attached).
Do you have any suggestions in order to solve it?

Hi all,

I solved the issue deleting the folder: C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design

These are the steps that I performed (it can be useful for someone else):
1. Uninstall the software
2. Delete the folder C:\Program Data\Blackmagic Design\
3. Delete the folder C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design
4. Install the software

Yes, that's what we call a "clean install" of Resolve. If there are corrupt config file issues, this will fix that.

Just be aware that doing that also deletes the default Resolve Disk database.

Yes, you're right Dwaine.
We can add as point 0. Perform the backup of the database
