Invert/Reverse Oval Iris Video Transition

PostSun Dec 31, 2017 2:06 am

Hi, I'm using the oval iris transition on the beginning of a new scene to "open up" the first shot from black. No problems there. However, I'd also like to "close down" on the end of the previous shot (from the scene prior) with the oval iris transition to black, but can't seem to get the transition to run in reverse in this manner. Is this possible in Resolve 14 Studio?

I figured it out, I had to lay in a Solid Color Generator (Effects Library Window) over top of my video layer on the timeline, Change the Color to Black, Lay on the Oval Transition on the black layer, and key the Transition Curve from 1 to 0.

Seems to me like adding an "invert transition" button would be a great future feature!

-EDIT- sorry Ben, was too fast to answer, just realized I misread your problem.
ignore what I wrote :)

Agreed..

However, you could do it simpler by clicking the transition curve open and just invert the graph.
You can then save it a Transition preset and add an "R" to the name for future uses.

That's very handy -- I ran into this some months ago with the "Barn Door" transition and couldn't reverse it for the client. I should've thought of the transition curve! Good idea, Hector.

Thanks Marc :) glad that my misread could help someone after all.

Still. OP is right, an Invert checkbox would be much welcomed

I have exactly this same question. Only...

Reversing the transition curve doesn't quite do it. It changes the circle from opening to closing, that much is true, but I want the old clip inside, (being closed on), and the new clip outside, (replacing the old clip).

Reversing the curve results in a sort of stupid transition where the new clip pops in, is closed on, and when the circle vanishes, the new clip pops back in. Not what I had in mind. :\.

Any other ideas?
