Resolve 14 Audio and video

PostFri Jan 05, 2018 6:28 am

Hello there,

Ok, so after long days of Cuda drivers updates and OS X upgrade, I´m finally running Resolve 14. Everything seems to work fine except for this weird audio/video issue. I can hear the audio and see the video from the timeline on a Panasonic monitor but not on a Yamaha receiver and HDMI projector.

Here´s the path :

Mac Pro 4.1
OSX 10.11.6
Resolve 14.2.0.012
BM Decklink SDI 4k video and audio output via SDI into :
Panasonic BTLH2170 (here the audio/video are OK)
loop from the Panasonic using another SDI cable into :
AJA SDI to HDMI converter
Yamaha receiver (using an HDMI input and here I cannot listen a thing)
Epson HDMI projector (no image at all)

The weird thing is that this very same setup works OK with Final Cut 7 for both audio and video.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced,

Rodrigo

I would bet this is an HDCP problem within the HDMI stream: the cable is telling the receiver to ignore the content. Get an HDMI splitter that removes HDCP, and I predict this problem will go away. (Do a Google search and you can find plenty of them.)

I had a similar problem trying to route decklink output through a Yamaha receiver via HDMI In/out. In this case, the signal was intermittent through the receiver, but fine when routed directly to the monitor.

In retrospect is was probably an HDCP issue, since the receiver could handle HDMI from other sources. Wish I'd known at the time!

I´ll look into HDCP. The weird thing is that the receiver works fine with the exact same configuration but playing from Final Cut 7. More so, I was able to output audio and video from the earlier versions of Resolve.
I bet there´s a setting somewhere in Resolve 14 to correct this. The real loss is that I cannot check on the projector the work I´m doing in Resolve anymore.

Thanks Marc and John,
HDCP look like the most probable cause but I´m still intrigued why it works fine when I´m working on FCP 7 and why it doesn´t when working on Resolve. After all it is the same chain from the decklink SDI 4k all the way to the HDMI projector.

Could it be there´s a setting on Resolve to turn HDCP on/off ?.

Thanks again !. I would never suspected such an HDMI conspiracy :D
