Finished video too small

I am new(ish) to resolve. I have done a few slideshows without any issues but I'm now trying to do some very basic editing of some video and I am missing something when I render my videos. For some reason, my finished videos are too small, meaning, when viewed on YouTube or in a video player, at full screen settings, they do not fill the whole screen. They are only about 1/2 of the screen. I have tried rendering the videos in multiple different resolutions but can't seem to find the right setting to make the picture full screen. The videos I have been editing are in both 1080p and 720p, both with the same results. I've included a picture to show you what I mean. I messed with the project settings and the render settings and this is as good as I can get it. I'd obviously like it to be like the pre-edit picture.

Well you could start with telling us your project settings and the exact render settings you've used.

Do they look bad in Resolve when you edit them or only after export?

What are your project setting?

Try this:
Select source clips, right click, Clip Attributes and adjust Aspect Ratio so they look fine.
You have some baldy flagged source files.

What codec and raster dimensions are you rendering to?
What codec and raster dimensions is your source footage?

I'm having exactly the same issue - tried lots of different output codecs and resolution size.
I'm on version 15.0.08.043, windows 10.
The original file source is MP4 1280 x 720 HD , and I am trying to export in exactly the same format.
I have tried again with just a 3 second video clip, nothing else added (text, added audio etc) so it is just importing to resolve then trying to render and export in the same format.
(Otherwise I love the software!)

Thanks peter and Glenn . Codec - both original and export is MP4.
Dimensions 1280 x 720 for original and export.

Glenn I have tried the square pixel and this nearly fixes it - much better so thanks for that, but there is still some black edging preventing the final product being the same size as the original for YouTube use.
Tried pretty much every other setting on the render options.....

Original clip for testing here:

Imported then exported clip here:

I have attached the setting I used for the export. Import and export are 1280 x 720 as before, MP4.
Many thanks for the help -I am new to this software so may have overlooked something basic! However I would like to persevere as this is much better and more intuitive than lightworks.

Hi, we need the clip, not a picture of the clip.
You will need to put it on dropbox or similar, provide a link with a space in the path so the forum will accept the link.

Is this the original clip? That’s the only one we can do anything with.

Hi,

No issue here with project settings
Timeline resolution 1280 x 720 HD 720P
Pixel Aspect ration square
Timeline frame rate 30
Playback frame rate 30

Image scalling
Input scalling Scale entire image to fit
Output Scalling 'Match timeline setting'

Work if Timeline resolution = 1280 x 720 HD 720P or Timeline resolution = 1920 x 1080 HD

mp4_render.jpg

:)

Many thanks Jean,
I am new to Resolve and did not realise the timeline needed scaling first .
All working fine now I have played with these settings.
