Set Resolve LUTs folder?

PostSun Mar 04, 2018 7:58 am

Hi folks,

Resolve's LUTs folder is a subfolder of the main Resolve data folder (C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\LUT); but in fact LUTs tend to be independent of the tool being used.

I'd like to store my LUT files in a different folder and have Resolve look there instead of the default folder. That makes far more sense than having to copy my LUT files to the Resolve subfolder, which just results in duplicates of the files.

How can I do this? Using Windows 10.

Thanks!

As far as I know, this is not possible at the moment.

You can make a symbolic link in the Resolve LUT directory.

For instance say you have a folder (and sub folders) with custom LUTs in the folder called:

s:\video\LUTS

Then if you go to the command line and type:

cd "C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\LUT"
mklink /d MyLUTS s:\video\LUTS

Then you can access your custom LUTs in Resolve under 3D LUT in the sub menu MyLUTS.

I would like to see this feature added, as I would like to store all my LUTs in Dropbox, so I can use on multiple computers and keep my LUTs synced.

It would be great if I can browse for LUTs in other than the default directory. It would allow to have project specific LUTs, without messing up the overall LUT set-up (also, be able to back-up the whole project, including the LUTs).

Here is a cheat.

Create a folder in the folder where davinci luts are store. In the new folder create a shortcut folder to the external harddrive you want to store your luts in. If you've never created a shortcut folder just youtube it, it's super easy to do.

For some reason you can't put a shortcut in the main folder but you can have one is any subsequent folder.

Yh luts take up too much space and my cheap laptop does not have the internal storage space for that.
