Hello

I get the following error shown below after just installing DaVinci Resolve 14.3

"Davinci Resolve is unable to run as the application was not able to initialize the discrete GPU."
"Please ensure that DaVinci Resolve is configured to run in performance mode in your graphics card settings utility."

Here are some of my Desktop PC's Specs

Windows 10

Motherboard:
ASUS Z270I mITX LGA1151 Z270 Kaby Lake DDR4 1PCI-E16 USB3.1 HDMI WiFi Z270 Aura

Graphics Card:

Hard Drive:
Crucial MX300 525GB M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive - CT525MX300SSD4

I've attached the Log files here: nofile.io/f/x2y5gh8zebP/DaVinci-Resolve-logs-_175722.zip

Note: I have successfully run 12.5 before on this PC but it would sometimes crash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

What NVIDIA driver are you using? Hopefully a relatively recent one?

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Assuming the driver is current, lets follow the error message instructions and set the GPU for performance mode.

Open the NVIDIA Control Panel (right click on an empty area of your desktop to select).

In the Manage 3D Settings - Global Settings tab, set Power Management to "Prefer maximum performance".

You also should ensure that your Windows Power Plan is set to High Performance.

Did that help?

Hi

Sorry I was tying to edit this post last night but it wouldn't let me.

i actually got it working many hours later. I ended up doing a factory reset on my windows 10. Also my HDMI cable was plugged into the motherboard instead of the video card so I fixed that.

However resolve is crashing my whole entire computer unless I change my render speed to 2. Is there a workaround this? I feel like my computer should be capable of higher speeds.

This is the ram I have

Please send another log after such a crash.

Hi Dwaine

I created a log as soon as my computer started back up after a render crash of the whole windows system. I'll attach it to the link below

More info:
I haven't made any major installs or changes to the computer after factory reset. I've only installed DaVinci Resolve, VLC, and Chrome.

Also I've tried changing the "Power Management Mode" to Prefer Maximum Performance in the NVIDIA Control Panel however I get the error "Access Denied" "Failed to apply selected settings in your system"

Update:

I still can't solve the issue with the render speed. Any help on that would be appreciated greatly.

Also Resolve is crashing the entire PC every 15 minutes or so whenever I am working on a project.

Here are the new log files:

Did you do a memory test a driver test and a gpu stress test?
Is the gpu on slot 1?

Hi,

In the bios: did you disable Intel® HD Graphics 630?
Then: Reinstall the NVIDIA driver for your EVGA GeForce GTX 1070.

I see no crash dumps in any of your recent logs.

Is Resolve hanging, and you are force quitting it?

I see no signs of render attempts in the logs either, which seems strange. Have you have any renders that completed? Or does it always hang or crash before a render finishes?

Open Windows System Information and do a Save, and post a link to the .NFO file it creates.

I haven't done any renders recently.
I've just been working on project that crashes every 15 mins or so.

It doesn't look like Intel Graphics HD is disabled. Perhaps it seems that way because I plugged in my HDMI into my graphics card instead of my motherboard? I did not make any changes to the PC since factory reset.
Also I still can't change my NVIDIA to maximum performance. I can look more into this however I think its the CPU possibly.

Resolve is hanging for 2 minutes then the screen turns blue to the windows crash screen.
I tried pressing ALT CTRL DEL but nothing happens.

Please find the link to the NFO file below.

The Windows Error Log has lots of BlueScreen errors and a couple of Windows Update fail errors. I see no Resolve errors in the log. It only has errors from 3-23 through 3-28. Seems like your system may be experiencing other issues.

It's also odd that you can't change the NVIDIA performance mode.

There is a new NVIDIA driver, 391.35. Download and install that. When you run the driver installer, at the install options section, select Custom, and then select "Perform a clean installation". Maybe there is an issue with the way your current driver is installed, and if so, a clean install should fix it.

Thanks everyone for your help
The issue has been solved.

My computer was overheating. It was reaching 100 degrees celcius.
It would be at that point when the computer would crash.
I have Mini ITX Case ( Silverstone SG13b) so there isn't much room for air flow

My Motherboard has three power settings in the BIOS. Power Save, Optimal, and Performance.
I took it down from Performance to Optimal power settings.

During a render the highest temperature it'll go now is 90 degrees now at maximum rendering speed with Ultra HD Video and quality restricted to 100,000 kb/s.

During an edit the maximum temperate I've seen is 80 degrees

If theres anything else I can do to have it running more smoothly please let me know

Thanks!! :D

Are you sure the CPU cooler is working? You shouldn't see temperatures like that. That small case may be another reason.

A system with your CPU and GPU would typically have 2 or 3 intake fans, at least one exhaust fan, and either liquid CPU cooling, or a large heat sink with one or two internal fans blowing air over the heat sink at the exhaust fan.

If the fans are working then I would suspect a poor thermal connection between the CPU and cooler. Usually fairly easy to fix yourself or cheap for a shop to do.

I don't think those gpu are up to the task.

Try to disable the Intel one and use only the amd.
