I am trying to get your DaVinci-Resolve-Linux-14.3-CentOS_7.3.iso install image working on my Thinkpad T60 laptop. I know, underpowered, but I am just trying to get resolve to start without crashing.

It does not work on this laptop with the error:
/opt/resolve/bin/resolve: error while loading shared libraries: libOpenCL.so.1:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

As far as I can tell, OpenCL is not supported directly by CentOS. One source of the library is an nvidia driver from the elrepo software repository. I installed the nvidia driver and now gnome will not start.

So a totally dead in the water experience installing your CentOS iso on an industry standard , albeit older, Thinkpad laptop.

This post is just a FYI as I was installing it on this laptop to see if it would work. I will have a separate post on my problems trying to run it on my Fedora system which does support OpenCL

It breaks my heart as a die hard Linux desktop user but if this is the level of quality Linux users can expect from your product, I would strongly recommend discontinuing your Linux support.

The CentOS resolve image has always worked great for us on modern industry standard hardware in high end production scenarios.

I would take a leap here and say that the Thinkpad T60 laptop is not an industry standard piece of kit.

It has a dual core (core 2 duo 2GHZ proc) and a maximum of 4GB of RAM along with a 128MB ATI card.

It was also new in 2006/2007 which is over 10 years ago.

None of the above meet the minimum requirements for running Resolve 14.

OpenCL should also not be your preferred method of GPU processing in Linux. If you set your mode to CUDA and use an Nvidia GPU you will also have a much better experience on a more modern piece of gear.

I agree that the T60 is old. I was using it to see if the resolve software would even run under Linux. My two tries on my desktop as your zip file and on my spare laptop as a fresh install have both failed. See my parallel thread about resolve not correctly detecting my desktop Intel integrated graphics controller.

As to a T60 not being standard kit, Thinkpads are industry standard business laptops so I find your comments somewhat insulting. I am just a potential customer trying to get resolve to work on anything running Linux.

Excuse me. It is the resolve software complaining about a missing OpenCL library. I did not make the choice.

If you would like to be helpful, you might point me to the pages in resolve's 600+ pages of documentation that tells me how to manually configure resolve's frame buffer configuration. I really am trying to figure out how to make it work.

The intent was not to insult your Thinkpad T60, apologize if it came off that way.

You will find that your laptop is just not capable of supporting Resolves GPU centric architecture or any other equivalent high end GPU based platform even with hours and hours of manually configuring resolves frame buffer.

You would be better served with a basic White Box system and an Nvidia 1070 or equivalent so you do not have a terrible experience with Linux and Resolve. It is a great experience with the needed hardware base on Linux.

There is a thread stickied at the top of the forum regarding experimenting with Linux and Resolve that I have found very helpful over the last few months.

i don't think its always useful, to stress this need of "modern industry standard hardware [as it should be seen as common] in high end production scenarios". sure -- if you really need a maximum of processing power, you will simply utilize this kind of hardware, but simple general compatibility should be seen as more a more or less independent demand.

really well [performance] optimized software, usually doesn't only work formidable on the most actual and expensive hardware, but often uses computing resources in such an efficient manner, that also quite moderate hardware profits a lot from this streamlining. otherwise they are usually not able, to handle really demanding bleeding edge tasks (e.g. 8K realtime HDR processing) even on much better hardware. sure -- not all optimizations are concerning both cases. there are also aspects, where you really have to choose different and incompatible solutions for high end processing, but in many cases, both sides will profit from suchlike software optimizations...

but that's just a more general marginal note.

concerning the actual question in this thread resp. parallel similar threads, we should better try to isolate the real issue. but in case of this particular laptop, it looks really hard, to find an answer, how the necessary minima of OpenCL or CUDA computing capabilities should be provided to resolve in a sufficient manner?

Hi Robert, im not familiar with that computer but if its truly 10 years old, with 4GB of system memory and a low power GPU its unlikely to be suitable for Resolve. If its much newer and more powerful then specific specs or model detail might help us provide guidance.

I'm working on a new config guide but this link at the top of the forum can direct you to the current guide. While out of date it shows the type of system config you will need.
