Constant Crashes with Studio_15.0b1_Mac

PostWed Apr 11, 2018 1:33 am

First, Thank you for such an amazing version. I feel it's as if the engineers read my mind and gave me every feature I could ask for. I love working with Fusion and Fairlight, and having all the features within Davinci is brilliant! I am so excited to use version 15!

That is why I upgraded from v14 so quickly - just to see if the beta was stable and if I could make it my work on my machine. Everything started off perfectly - installation was without error - database converted without error - project from v14 was loaded without error - made many edit changes without error - added Fairlight tools such as noise reduction to dialogue tracks without error - added several additional clips and stills to the current project, and then colorized some images without error. And then, without warning, the program started crashing. Again and again. And now, every time I try to play any portion of my timeline, the program will crash after a few frames. I believe the problem has something to do with the cached files during playback, but I am not sure.

If I can't solve this in the next few days, I'm going to have to revert to v14 just so I can work. Can anyone help me some suggestions to fix, or instructions on how to go back to v14 after my database has been upgraded to v15??

Again, Thank you!!!!! I can't wait until this v15 is stable on the MacOS platform.

UPDATE: Durning a long night, I deleted all of my optimized media and render caches, and temporally shut them all off. This stopped the constant crashing of v15 outlined in my previous post. I was then able to finish a draft of the project working in v15. I used the Fairlight page to add all of the sound effects as no audio was recorded during the shoot (only some scratch track from an internal mic). I used the Fusion page for keying and visual effects. I used the color page for correction and finishing of original Canon 5D MkII, GoPro and iPhone footage. There were several additional crashes through the hours, but each time I was able to reload the program and continue. I finished the draft which is now on Vimeo for review.

In the end, I would not recommend v15 yet if your project is deadline intensive. But if you have the time to experiment, deal with the intermittent crashes, and learn the new features of v15, this may be one of the most significant updates in Davnici's history. Kudos to the development team!!!!

I'm seeing regular crashes in the 15 Studio beta when trying to switch to a different database. Also new to troubleshooting Resolve. How do I delete / disable the cache files? Wondering if this might help my situation.
