Music video workflow

PostThu Apr 12, 2018 3:44 pm

I am really trying to fully leave Premiere and come to Resolve but every time I try to edit a music video I can't seem to find a good workflow.

Resolve plays back my 422 clips much smoother than Premiere and we all know the grading is amazing.

I just can't come up with a good way to sync the audio to the master track.

In Premiere I may use Plural Eyes but more times than not I just select the clip I want to use. Drag it on the timeline, select the master track, right click and select Sync. done. super simple. In Resolve, my PE XML timeline somehow gets out of sync. If i sync using Resolves tools I don't know how to then sync again to the master track because it does a decent at best job of syncing the individual clips but that doesn't help me getting them synced to the master on the timeline.

HELP! lol

Always used pluraleyes (4) with Resolve and never a single beat out of sync so not sure why it is out of sync for you. I found it to be the fastest workflow for non timecode based audio sync. Better then any NLE's audio sync feature. Specialy with multiple sound sources , cameras etc. Just drop it on pluraleyes, export xml to resolve and done.
I had issues with older version of pluraleyes with very long clips when it tried to do drift compensation, but with 4 not more.

edit : make sure your audio material is 48Khz !! Resolve does not like other rates that much. Also no some crappy mp3, but proper wav/broadcast wav

Maybe that is the problem? We shot ref audio at 48 but the track from the artist is 44100 and a MP3. Premiere can care less but are you saying if the audio isn't perfect how Resolve likes it I will run into issues?

Yeah it can generate issues. Specialy if you come in from tools like PE. No idea if still the case with 15 but its good practice to take care of your audio settings before recording to facilitate a smooth post.
You cuold transcode the audio before syncing, but its been a while since i dealt with anything else then 48khz material. Always make 10000 % sure the scratchtrack in camera is also 48khz so it can sync with the external audio in pluraleyes.
Its just less hastle .

gotcha! I requested the song in 48 + wav so we will see if i get any different results.
I open the same XML from PE in Premiere with no issues.
