Can't restore databases

PostFri Apr 13, 2018 1:25 pm

Hi!

I've run into a problem with my Resolve 14.2.1.007. I imported a song into a project, and almost immediately after that, I was no longer able to save projects. At first it gave me an error message, but then it just froze Resolve entirely. So I force quit the application and rebooted my computer, and I could no longer open that particular project. The second I click on the project it crashes the program with no error messages.

I did have a .drp for the project, but same thing happened when I tried to import it. I also attempted to export a new .drp from the program manager, but when I hit save it crashes again.

So I tried to import a completely different .drp, and it started to load, but upon reaching 100% I received this error message

Image
(I'll provide the crash log at the bottom of the post)

All the other projects work like they are supposed to.

So I decided to backup my disk database, and upgrade to Resolve 15 to see if that would fix the problem. Backing it up worked, but I wanted to doublecheck that the .resolve file was actually working, but sadly it didn't. This is the error message I received.

"Failed to restore database because the directory does not allow read and/or write access. Please change the permissions or choose a different directory."

I'm not sure which directory it refers to, but I have read and write access for all of my directories, so it seems strange. The name of the database is also unique, so it shouldn't interfere with any other database.

Now I'm not exactly sure what to do. I don't want to reinstall Resolve if I can't be sure that my .resolve.diskdb will work properly, and I still can't find a way to open my corrupt project.

So as you can see I've run into a couple of problems, does anyone have an idea of how I can fix this?

I'm sitting on a macOS Sierra 10.12.6 system. It's an iMac 27-inch from late 2013 with 32 GB RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB as the gfx card.

The crash log for the error message I received when I tried to restore my database:

What you have described in terms of this particular project not working (no the Database) happened to me a week ago. What got corrupted was the Timeline, not the entire project. If you have more than one Timeline for this particular project, please load it.
I did nothing to the Database, and everything when back to normal after loading a previous Timeline.
Yes, I lost the work I did in the corrected Timeline, but at least I have everything until the last operation in the previous Timeline.

The second option is to load a Backup from the Project List if you have it On.

Duplicating the Timeline at least at the end of the day has saved me more than three times.

Thanks for your reply!

Yea, I had 8 timelines in that project and I have a separate .drp for each one of them. Except for the last two I worked on. The last one is probably the one who's corrupt, but because I can't open the project I've lost the two timelines instead of one.

And yea, I was stupid to not back it up every day. I usually do that every day for every project I've worked on during the day, but had a tight deadline and got sloppy with the backups... And to top it all of I've somehow managed to turn auto backup off without realising it...

Does anyone know if there is any way to find out what's making a timeline corrupt, and if it's possible to get try and fix it without actually opening the project?

Send you drp to BM. Maybe they can fix it for you

Thanks, I'll try that! The only problem is that the .drp is zero kb, and because of that I can't send it... I do have the database for all my projects, and that project is in there. But I'll try to get in touch with BM, for now I haven't been able to find a solution, and it looks like I may just have to re-edit the two timelines I lost.

Ouch. Zero kb seems that one is toast.
Zipp up you entire db i would say and indeed conatct bm and dropbox it to them. Its you best chance.
Or indeed bite the bullet and redo the work if your on a deadline.
Good luck man. Hope it gets sorted
