Fusion: Layered clips don't appear in Comp

PostSat Apr 14, 2018 3:57 pm

Suppose I have a clip, and I place a Text+ clip from the Effect Library on Track 2. If I go into the Fusion tab, I'd expect to see the pre-composed image with the footage and the Text+ in my comp—same as I see in the Timeline. Instead, I get only the Text+ because Fusion only imports the clip from the uppermost video track.

Hi Bryan,

I think it's a small bug  . I reproduced the effect. On the PC monitor I have the same thing as you but on the monitor out BMD card, I have Track V1 and V2

You don't see the second piece of media in your Flow view, either, though, I see. I guess the output to your monitor is still from the Timeline? Can you send a Fusion output over there? I see three dots on your nodes. I don't have a monitor out on my box, so I can't test it myself.

I think it would be nice if there were at least a MediaIn node for each item present in the comp range. Disconnected, but still in the Flow. Quickly creating custom transitions would be easier—drop a slug over the transition point and make a Fusion clip. In the comp you'd have your slug, but you'd also have both ends of the transition ready to manipulate. Or maybe there are other ways of getting that done? I'm no editor, so I haven't a clue how some of this Timeline stuff actually works.

Obviously you can still go to the MediaPool to bring in whatever you like, but a click saved is a click earned.

I think you will need to click drag and select the 2 clips, then right click and make a 'New Fusion Clip'. After that if you go to the FUSION page you should see both your source media piped into the flow.

Take a look here, might help. Move to time code 6m:55s for the relevant portion.

That works on the Fusion end, but it isn't so great on the Edit end since the Fusion clip is bundled together. Also, you apparently can't make a Fusion Clip out of a Text+. Which makes sense, really, since it's already a Fusion object.

And as a related matter, I hope that eventually the Resolve Generators will be unified with similar nodes in Fusion (Solid Color / Background, for instance). For that matter, we've been hoping to see Resolve's color tools migrate into Fusion for a long time. I'm sure there's more communication between the panels coming.

Hi,

I confirm, what I see on the monitor Out BMD card comes from the TL and if I click on the 3rd button on a node, actually it sends the node on the same monitor

For now, I'm going to add the text + in the same clip in the Fusion TAB :)

I'm seeing the same issue here. The Fusion tab appears to pick off the clip on the topmost visible track to decide which Fusion nodes to display instead of preferring a selected clip. The Fusion tab also only displays one clip at a time for me instead of the composite. I'm guessing these "bugs" are a product limitation of the first version of the Fusion tab. (I mean, the devs basically crammed the entirety of Fusion 9 into a single tab of a separate product, which is pretty darn impressive in and of itself.)

Fortunately, I only occasionally need to use the Fusion tab for my current project. In the short term, turning off the tracks overlaying the layer I want to access works for me. My overlays can't be merged into Fusion nodes as they extend past most clips.

Found this thread hoping to find a quicker workaround to turning tracks on and off.
