I'm trying to optimize playback while editing, so I've enabled Smart Rendering however after the clip section is rendered it takes the media offline. Anything that hasn't been rendered shows normally still. I waited also until it fully rendered the timeline and then the whole timeline was offline.
Here's a video showing what's happening

I'm getting this too on my MacPro5,1 (macOS 10.13.4), running a GTX 980ti (6 GB) w/NVIDIA WebDriver 387.10.10.10.30.103, CUDA 387.178.
The footage its happening on is 1080p23.98 H264.

So it's now moved on to producing application crashes and kernel panics and system shutdowns whenever I try to use Render Cache.

Hi Edrick,
Could you please reproduce the crash and capture the logs and post a link here?

I've tried changing the media storage location, gallery stills and cache to local storage to see if the result was any different. However it still crashes as soon as I select either user rendering or smart rendering now. It's a MacBook Pro 2017 with 10.13.4

I tried to downgrade to 14.3 however then the database isn't compatible. After re-installing 15 the render cache immediately causes a crash
