Edit: adjust/preview source audio level

PostThu Apr 26, 2018 6:48 am

is there a way of adjusting/ soloing / viewing audio levels on source side, before putting in timeline?

There isn't a 'clip mixer' like in PP/Avid that I can see.

Keyboard shortcuts to raise/lower level, used in source monitor prior to adding to timeline, appear to have no effect.

Currently there's no way to change the gain/volume of a clip outside of a timeline.

Yes having the ability to adjust audio in preview monitor would be very valuable. Most music we get is way to hot so if you're set up to monitor a proper mix it blows you out. Often shooting b-roll, we're not really concerned with audio, but frequently there may be some informational conversation that would be great to hear before you put the shot on the timeline rather than trying to crank up monitor volume or place it on another timeline to pump up the levels/

Is this possible yet? I have a bunch of footage that is sync'd with 2-4 tracks and I can barely hear the audio in the source viewer as I scrub though while making my assembly edit.

There really ought to be a way to select a track and adjust each track's volume while still in the source viewer. Maybe have like a "Source Viewer Timeline" option? Right now you can VIEW the audio timeline in source but from what I can tell there is no option to change the volume or solo / mute tracks.

What about adding these volume controls to the Source Viewer?

No, unfortunately it's still not possible. Here are a few more Feature Request threads with varying ideas on the subject.
muting/solo channels when previewing footage
Mute & Solo in the Media Page
Mute / Unmute Tracks
Volume Control
Inspector in edit page audio channels and pan

This is a HUGE missed opportunity.

Almost every day I have to reach for the volume knob to switch between the Timeline and Source volume levels. When I forget, which is often, it risks damaging my speaker and eardrums.

This is an extremely important feature to include!

Even adding the ability to change a clip's gain through Clip Attributes would suffice. Either way, something must happen!

In the current 18.1.4 (and 18.5 beta) we can change the Volume of a clip before adding it to a timeline by selecting it in the bin and changing the value in the Inspector.
