Dissolve Node not working as expected

I'm brand new to the forum, so first off - Hello to you all!
I've only got a few month experience messing with 14 and now 15 (15.0.08.32).
I followed a YT tut video creating fusion animated titles which worked perfectly in 14.
I've followed the same steps again in 15 and I get lots of errors and unexpected behaviour. It's more than likely I'm doing something wrong.
I think the problem is the dissolve node is not changing from foreground to background. If I put an input into foreground and nothing into background on the dissolve node I can see my foreground with the slider all the way from 1 to 0.
I have tried to upload the crashlog but it is 90mb and times out.
System: Core i7, 8gb, windows 10 64 bit
