Rec 2100 HLG in CM Mode in scene and display light

PostSat Apr 28, 2018 9:00 pm

In Beta2 the Rec2100 HLG Input Transform in the Color Management settings seems broken, it does not do anything different from scene light transformations, unlike using it in an explicit Color Space Transform in a node.

Re: Rec 2100 HLG in Managed Color Mode Broken?

I checked this in Beta 3 and it is still broken.

Take any Rec2100 HLG image.

If you use YRGB (unmanaged) and apply the following color space transform:

transform-ok.jpg (45.25 KiB) Viewed 1870 times

Things work fine!

However using YRGB color managed:

does not work properly.

Instead of using Rec.709 (Scene) Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 or Rec.709 Gamma 2.2 also give incorrect results.

Sorry for harping on this but I would appreciate if someone from Blackmagic could comment on this situation.

It seems that YRGB color managed does not distinguish between display and scene light. Unlike using the OFX Color Space Transform Rec.2100 HGL gives the same results as Rec.2100 HLG (Scene).

Is this still work in progress, a bug or not a bug at all?

Ok, it's not a bug but my mistake, the input dataspace of the clip in question was overridden at the clip level. :(

I am sorry for the confusion and hope this did not waste too much time.
