Big Fail @ Database Connection

Spent last 3 hours reading forum posts/watching tutorials to find a resolution to my issue (database re-linking) but all attempts have failed big-time.
Had DR14 but uninstalled it in favor of the new DR15.
At that time, attempted to reconnect with my database (65 projects worth, about 1.2GB in size) but met with standard 'failed the connect to the database' error.
I have a main database file (.db) named 'user' and 65 others that reside in individual folders named after their specific grading project.
When searching thru windows explorer all files are intact.
When attempting to reconnect using 'new database' method of connecting to my database files, DR is not recognizing any of the .db files.
When try to reconnect by selecting various folders ('resolve projects' 'projects,' 'users,' etc,) I am again smacked with 'failed the connect to the database' error.
I thought maybe it was a DR15 compatibility issue so uninstalled it, re-installed 14 again.
Still not connecting.
A little concerned. 500+ hours of work residing in those files.
Any ideas, good people?
Massive thanks in advance.
