Another new user question:
I recently upgraded from my 7yo x58 based Xeon x5670 with 24gb ram to an i8700k on an ASUS Z370-H motherboard with 16gb ram.
I will be adding another 16gb of ram and want the the graphics card from my aging GTX-660ti 2gb card that I used with Premiere Pro CS6 (and all of its bugs that's will never be fixed) and Vegas Pro 14 with its lackluster performance while playing the time line and such. I've recently moved to Resolve 14 for all post work and love the RT performance across the board... actually pretty mind blowing! I will eventually upgrade (I think) to Resolve 15 once it gets stable. I will also be adding one of the black magic cards for secondary monitor support.
I do have a budget constraint and have reduced my choices down to either the AMD RX580 8gb card or the nVidia GTX-1060 6gb card. They both are similar in price for my budget and I'm wondering which way to go for the best bang for the buck/best performance. Or is there another slightly older card lower in cost that will do as well? I'm confused on which technology brand to go with to future proof my machine for another 5-7 years. I still edit in 1080p but want to set myself up for the eventual move to 4K. I'm basically a documentary shooter so don't need the heavy iron most post people are needing for their work.
Hoping more experienced members can chime in on which way to go on the graphics card.
TIA
