Are v15 project archives backwards compatible? I know v14 and earlier databases will be upgraded on installation of v15, but if you find while working on a project in v15, you discover a bug you can’t work around, can you archive the project, reinstall v14 and reimport the project?

No, newer projects don't open in older versions.
I wouldn't expect that anyway, how could they integrate Fusion, for example?
The old mantra: backup, backup, backup!

The workaround to go back to an earlier version of Resolve would be as follows:

1) export a 2.0 XML file of each timeline
2) grab all stills for each timeline
3) export all stills for each timeline to a separate folder.

Reboot in the other OS partition and relaunch the older version of Resolve. Start a new session and bring in the XML to rebuild the timelines.

Once that's done, import all the stills per each timeline. Then, relink the timelines to the media so it's fully populated. Once you do that, you can go to the color page and center-mouse-click on each still, one at a time, to manually force the corrections into the clip. Be sure to enable the "keyframes by timecode" option on the Gallery stills so that the keyframe positional changes are copied over. Watch out for stabilization, which (to me at least) is buggy.

It would be nice if BMD would create a standalone conversion program to take an earlier-version DRP and convert it to whatever version of Resolve you wanted: for example, from 15 -> 14 or from 14 -> 12.5. It could be done, but it's just a question of how much manpower they would want to devote to it. The alternative would be to provide an Export DRP option for v15, 14.3, or 12.5 selectable in the menu. It's possible, but not a simple thing to do.

Wouldn't it be easier to have a separate boot partition or disk for testing the beta?

I second the idea of exporting into older formats for exchange with partners who have to be careful before changing running configs.

Marc, thank you for your post. Good to know a way back if needed.
