Separate frames?

Hi All,

Is there a way , in Resolve 14, of automatically dividing a clip up into it's constituent frames, does anyone know please?

I suppose he wants single frames, Peter.
There are quite a few simple apps (depending on your platform) which can convert a movie file into an image sequence. DR can do it as well, if you just stick the clip into a timeline and choose an image sequence format on the Deliver page.

There are other formats than TIFF, like DPX, EXR or JPEG2000, depending on your needs.

Yes, thanks, but the format which works better for me is .png which DR doesn't list in that menu.
I have been using VideoPad to do it, up 'till now, but I thought I'd try & do everything in DR if possible.

Well I'm just finding my way around at the moment & exploring techniques.
I wanted to separate the frames on a piece of footage so I could hand colour each one - using Gimp or Pixelmator.
Something similar to parts of the promotional video of the Beatles' 'Lucy in the Sky' of the late 1960's by Gabriel Villela I believe.

You could to do that in Fusion.

But, anyway, one of the frame formats from Resolve should be readable by Gimp or Pixelmator.

Well, the problem I've found is that Reaper, my D.A.W., will not allow me to import .tiff files. So I've been doing everything as .png's.
I've read also that .png's are more amenable to images with Alpha content.

Fusion has a steep learning curve, but it's absolutely worth it.

Quicktime Player Pro 7 on OSX has an "Export as image sequence" option that can do what you want.
It will also import image sequences and stitch them back into a movie.
