I saved a project multiple times, but after crash, no saves

PostSun May 06, 2018 6:05 am

I was working with a client today, we were refining an edit. I hit save multiple times (File->Save Project). My client was sitting right beside me and he saw me hit save multiple times. Basically, anytime we made a change that we decided to keep, I hit save.

During a color grade, Resolve crashed. When I restarted Resolve and loaded the project, none of the work we did today was there. In fact, in the project list, it says the last change date is yesterday. (I was working on it yesterday, as well).

What the heck? Can I get today's changes back? ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Resolve 14.3 on a MacBook Pro. EDIT: It's Resolve Studio.

Do u have “auto backup ever x mins” on. If so right click on the project to see backups

I do not. I guess I foolishly thought manually hitting Save Project would, you know, save the project.

It should have. Unfortunately I don’t have further advice to offer.
You should make a big grade change to now clip and save as you did to prove that process does indeed save for you now. If not, check the keyboard shortcuts to see if it’s changed.

Tonight, the client came back and we knocked out the final video.

I turned on auto save.

Tonight, when I hit "File-> Save Project" the save dialog box appeared for a full second or two, and it really did save.

Towards the end of the night, I hit File->Save Project again, and the dialog box only appeared for a split second, and it did not appear to save. The very shot dialog box duration is what I got all night last night. This time, after File->Save Project didn't seem to work, I used CTRL-S and then the dialog box appeared for a longer time.

There's definitely a bug there.

I agree..the manual saving is not working..it flashes for a fraction of a second a saving status indicator..too short of time for a proper file writing. When my project autosaves the status indicator runs for a couple seconds.i also believe that manually invoked saves is not working. Ver 14 3 studio.

One thing you might do: save the project, then exit Resolve. Relaunch Resolve and check the Project Manager. If the project saved correctly, the time-stamp displayed should be from the last minute or two. If it isn't, then there's a big problem.

It never hurts to take a break every so often (particularly with a client) and export a backup to an external drive, just in case. Resolve 15 makes this process very easy, totally in the background, with a lot of control over how often you backup and when it happens.
