Repeatable Crash with Replace Edit

PostThu May 10, 2018 7:18 pm

I'm using a titles in Video 2 as place holder for B-roll, and I'm getting a lot of strange behavior.
First the repeatable crash (logs down below): I press X to set a range around the placeholder, after locating my media, I press the replace edit button and it crashes immediately.

Other strange things. If I manually set in an out points, the Out Point extends 1 frame beyond the playhead (and my intended selection range). If I use the replace edit command, it only tacks one frame of my replacement clip to the very end (in the space I didn't want to select in the first place). If I manually back up one frame and adjust my Out point to the correct frame, the replace edit command still only replaces the last frame, or crashes as above.

Replacing these placeholders with Still Images presents different bugs. For example, when performing a replace edit based on the playhead position (with no selection range) the Still is one frame shorter than the placeholder clip. When I do the same while manually setting the in and out points, the replace edit works "correctly," but the outpoint is one frame longer than the placeholder.

Anyway, those are the bugs I've found, thanks in advance for taking care of it.

I can't replicate any of these problems (apart from manually setting the out point meaning by default it goes 1 frame beyond where I really want it to be, but this is normal NLE behaviour and I believe only Avid has the ability to change where the playhead stops when you select the next edit point). What's your system spec?

The only bug I CAN find with replace edit is to do with stills replacing standard generators, in that if you try and replace a generator as you have described, using just the playhead position, then if the current playhead position in the source monitor means that there are not enough handles for the still to extend as far as the in point in the timeline, then the still will replace what it can but if the still is longer than the generator it will replace, then it will ignore the out point of the generator and so go beyond it. A lot of 'if's in that statement - this doesn't happen if it's replacing another movie or still, or even a generator contained within a compound clip. If all of these conditions are true, except now the still is shorter than the generator it is to replace, then there will be a gap after the end of the still (same is true when dealing with movies as sources).

How long is the default still duration in User settings in relation to the duration of the generators you are trying to replace?

Anyway, I'd recommend against using in/out points in the timeline when using Replace, there's no need unless you are replacing a specific stretch of time rather than a clip.
