35mm DPX footage and aspect ratio questions

PostMon May 14, 2018 7:14 pm

Hi everyone,

I've been having a weird issue lately and is likely just me having a bad brainfart or something when it comes to Da Vinci. I've been learning the program and have run into some issues that don't show up easily on google searches. If you could help, that would be very appreciated.

I am using Da Vinci to edit 35mm DPX footage on a short film and have been running into issues with some of the menus and inner workings of the menus. I haven't edited with 35mm much but was given DPX files for the raw footage and 720p proxies for the first round of filming (created before I was hired). The proxies I was given for the first round seemed to be centered and correct.

They later did some reshoots, though my proxies weren't done as well. The aspect ratio they shot in was 1.85.1 but (embarassingly) I can't figure out how to create a 1.85.1 timeline. The footage is mostly a vertical square with big black bars on the side. Whenever I scale/zoom in, it loses a lot of framing that my proxies had and I'm stressing.

Does any of this make sense? I can get screencaps if this doesn't make sense
