Media Offline when using drone videos

I’ve created many DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone videos that playback fine in any media player like MPC-HC or VLC. But when trying to use them in DaVinci Resolve I immediately get only a Media Offline message (see below). I don't know why.

The drone videos are 4096x2160 with 99,997kbps bitrate, 29.970fps MP4 format, H.264.

This is a fresh install of the free version of DaVinci Resolve v14.3.0.014 on Win7 Pro with 32GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

I am sure it must be something simple. Any suggestions? "Media Offline" isn't much of an error message to run with.

This happens often in my Mac. Also with mp4 files from A7s2 footage.

Does anyone know why? And how to manage without transcoding?

The OP's issue is Windows 7.

We'd need more detail on your Mac system.

Swapping Win7 for Win10 is, unfortunately, a heavy lift. Are there any fixes or alternatives I might be able to consider? Upgrade or patch Win7 with whatever you might be using from Win10 at least enough to open and edit a video?

Many thanks!!

There was a Win7 patch to make H.264 video work on Win7 with Resolve 12:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/kb/2670838

You can try this, if it's not already installed. Otherwise, we can't help with Win7 issues,
