Request: Add "Rating" field to metadata fields

PostSun May 27, 2018 12:47 pm

Hi, I think it would be neat and helpful to have a "Rating" metadata in form of stars or something , and along with it a column "Rating" in media pool.

Just add custom metadata tags.

See the Resolve 14 manual starting on page 208. There are instructions there for entering metadata and keywords; I think ratings can actually be accomplished via keywords. I haven't tried using asterisks (which could be used to simulate star ratings like ****), but it might work; if not you could try keywords like "best" "good" "poor" or something similar, and then you can use Smart Bins to automatically put all your best clips in one bin or put all the poor ones in a bin so you can delete them if you need to free up disk space, for example.
Resolve 19 Studio, M2 MacBook Air with 24 gigs of RAM; also Mac Pro 3.0 GHz 8-core, 32 gigs RAM, dual AMD D700 GPU.

Yes I've done some walkaround already with some other tags. Nonetheless I like the idea of
asterixes and smart bins.
Thanks!

In Final Cut Pro, Lightroom and Kyno You can rate your clips. Would be a great help if Resolve would have this too.
(Currently I use keywords as a work around)

Yeah, I don't understand how people can function without a proper rating system.

I have to rate clips on a variety of quality factors, which I can do in Premiere Pro.

Is there any willingness of leadership on DaVinci Resolve to implement this? In particular, the ability to add customer Metadata Fields?

Been doing this 20 years. Never once needed it.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

+1 for this request. Star ratings (with sorting) makes is much quicker/easier to deal with project with hundreds of clips with overlapping content.
