mapping scroll wheel to zoom in/out on the timeline

PostTue May 29, 2018 11:02 pm

Is it possible to map the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out of the timeline? I've tried it in resolve 15 keyboard mapping preferences but can't seem to do it. maybe there is a mouse trick..

Thanks for the reply. The command doesn't work and i can't seem to program it either. Could you throw some more info?

I have the keyboard mapped as default so didn't touch much there.

Would love to have the same mouse wheel functionality on the Color tab timeline.

On Edit; we have plain scroll for vertical movement, Option/Alt+scroll for zoom, and Shift+scroll for horizontal movement.

On Color, all we get is zoom, as none of the modifier keys make any difference, for what I can tell.

Can we have the EDIT/FUSION/FAIRLIGHT etc., etc. pages' Zoom gadget redesigned in a vertical orientation?

Barring use of the currently-schyzophrenic scroll wheel options, among the pages, it seems frequent scrolling with lateral mouse movement will ultimately become a pain in the wrist.

Sorry Peter, the post above yours shows with modifiers the scroll is pretty good on edit.. yes?

We just need to expand that to other pages?

Yes, please :D

Let's say I'm mulling through the timeline, fine-tuning both edits and grades. Having the mouse behave in a uniform way across the timelines in different pages would keep my workflow consistent.

Hi Guys,
Coming to Davinci after 15 years of using Premiere I can't live without zooming in and out of the timeline just by using mouse wheel, but without pressing CTRL, or ALT on keyboard. I am not sure if it's possible?
Just scrolling with mouse with no use of keyboard. Please let me know. Thanks

I'm actually looking for the same.. I mean, I never ever use the scroll without alt now.. I never need to move up and down on the frames as I only use two channels.. though I zoom in/out constantly - so I'd like to switch functionality between alt+scroll and scroll - can it be done?

Would love the ability to zoom in/out without the alt key needing to be pressed. Hopefully this can be added as an option as it would be more user friendly.

Anyone figure out how to remap the mouse scroll to zoom in/out? I'm getting off Sony Vegas and really liked the their zoom/scroll feature. Thanks, Rick from Kansas

Since this has been bumped, allow me to add one very big thumbs up to the idea of scroll (and navigation in general) being standardized across the pages. Seems a bit odd to me that every page has its own idea of how navigation and scrolling ought to work.

I very much would like that in the edit page that when mouse is hovered over the timeline and not the viewer it should zoom in and out with just the mouse scroll wheel. It would be even better if it would work that way even when mouse pointer is on viewer. The way it works now that it zooms the viewer in & out is slightly annoying for my workflow, since I barely ever need to do that, especially since I use an apple magic mouse on which the scrollwheel function works by just touch.

Since I have the Davinci Resolve Editor keyboard another option that would also work for me, since my hand is anyway on the jog/shuttle wheel, is while holding down a keyboard modifier it will change the jogwheel from moving the playhead to zooming in & out of timeline. The way it works now is counter intuitive especially to the whole purpose of the keyboard editor to speed up workflow, this way of zooming in & out by holding down option and scrolling on mousewheel just slows it down.

Any news regarding remapping of this?

Im mentally pulling my hair with the lack of sidescrolling. Neither alt nor ctrl + scroll works. Clicking the mouse wheel and dragging the mouse is so uneccessary labour intensive mousework, when all you should need is to just scroll and move it sideways...

By default side scrolling works if you hold down the Alt key and hover the mouse over the area above the clips, where the timecode numbers and scale lines are.

You can also map the scroll wheel to sidescrolling without any modifier key or the need to hover over a certain area, by deselecting View > "Enable 2D Timeline Scroll". Of course then you can no longer scroll to zoom. Resolve is still a bit of a mess for mouse users on the Edit page unfortunately.

I think that's a very good suggestion.

Hi, I know topic is old, but google still finds it anyway :)
So i trying to switch from other software, where default mouse scroll is zoom in/out. Im very used to this behaviour. I know I can use alt modifier. But habits are strong.
Maybe there is still chance, to make devs mouse scroll customizable like keyboard shortcuts? It can't be that hard.......
please?

I have found a workaround solution. The imwheel utility can remap keyboard modifiers thet are sent to app when you scroll wheel. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/DaVinc ... l_and_zoom

Note: It is not ideal. Sometimes the original action happens a bit, and it is annoying. For example, you doing zooming, but timeline scrolls a bit vertically here and there. The next step of improvement (until bmd fix it properly, if ever) I think to create a virtual mouse device, and block real mouse device when dr window is active. Maybe will dig in that direction some day.

Note for windows users: here viewtopic.php?f=33&t=142717#p767630 there is a ahk script, but it was noted that it is also not ideal.

Absolutely support the ability to just zoom on the edit timeline with the scrollwheel without having to hold down modifier keys. It requires your hand to be on the keyboard, and do unnecessary extra actions in order to perform an action which is extremely common.

Bumping this up, I would love to be able to scroll just with the mouse wheel.
