HDR and SDR simultaneous viewing with gen 2 PCI card?

Hello all,

There is a “hack” that lets your view footage in HDR on one monitor and SDR on another.

You convert footage/timeline to 3D, and apply HDR LUT to one eye, and SDR to another. Resolve than spits out one SDI stream in HDR and another in SDR.

Has anyone tried this?

I believe you need 12G PCI card for this to work? Am I right, or will 6G work? Will any PCI gen 2 card work?

Are the 12G PCI gen 3 cards backwards compatible? Really compatible, not crashy?

I doubt this, but is it possible to spit HDR our of the HDMI 2.0 port and simultaneously spit out SDR out of the SDI ports?

Thanks!

It's not a hack. It's a described HDR10/HLG workflow starting on page 162 of the Resolve 14 January 2018 manual:

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/manual ... Manual.pdf

And to use it, you need a BMD I/O device that supports Stereo SDI output. There is a list of devices on that same page 162.

Thanks Dwaine.

I didn’t see the list of hardware.

You know the manual calls it a “hack.”

Can’t wait to give it try.

I meant I missed the list of hardware, originally.

Thanks.

They should really rename the tool—“HDR/SDR monitoring,” instead of “stereo.” It’s OK to repurpose the tool that was once used for stereoscopic, but it’s a bit confusing to keep calling it that while expecting it to be used in quite a different way...

Sorry Dwaine, still trying to understand.

The list of hardware that allows simultaneous viewing of HDR and SDR includes Decklink 4K Extreme (not 12g, but the earlier model). But this model doesn’t support Rec 2020.

Isn’t this a problem for HDR10?

In the section in the manual about HDR10, only the latest card (12g) is mentioned in the workflow.

This cards is gen 3 pci. Is it backwards compatible to gen 2?

I'm not sure how much clearer this list can be.
DeckLink HD Extreme 3D+ ‚ DeckLink 4K Extreme
‚ DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G ‚ UltraStudio 4K
‚ UltraStudio 4K Extreme
‚ UltraStudio 4K Extreme 3

Peter,

The list is clear, but this is what I asked:

The list of hardware that allows simultaneous viewing of HDR and SDR includes Decklink 4K Extreme (not 12g, but the earlier model).

However, the specs do not mention if the older model supports Rec 2020.

Isn’t this a problem for HDR10?

Leading to these questions:

In the section in the manual about HDR10, only the latest card (12g) is mentioned in the workflow. And that model specifically states that it supports Rec2020.

However the 12g is pci 3.

Is the 12 g backwards compatible to pci 2? Actually tested in pci 2?

Is there a better way to ask this?

The DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G is 8 lanes Gen 2, and if you want 2020 color space and HDR i recommend this card.
