Constantly Crashes on Startup. Logs attached.
Only way to start up is to add "Local.GPU.Mode = OpenCL" to config.dat
Never a problem on 12, 13 nor 14.

Can you try beta 2 from the support web site and confirm that beta works without the OpenCL setting.

Thank you.
I had beta 2 and beta 3 installed previously with no problems.

Thank you.
I had Beta 2, 3 installed prior to 4 and it was never an issue, however those were not Studio versions. I just bought a dongle and upgraded to Beta 4 Studio so maybe the issue lies there.

Resolve 15 Studio beta 4 WAS working on your system.
Until you switched from OpenCL to Metal GPU mode.
Very likely your HD5870 is does not support Metal.
Assuming Resolve won't open far enough to set this back to OpenCL in Resolve Preferences, do this:
In /Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve, open the config.dat file in TextEdit and add this at the bottom of the file:
Local.GPU.Mode = OpenCL
Save the file and exit TextEdit.
Launch Resolve. It should launch in OpenCL mode. Immediately go to Resolve Preferences - Hardware Configuration and set the GPU Processing Mode to OpenCL and save the preferences and restart Resolve.

Thank you, no and yes! As it says in my original post Resolve worked perfectly in previous iterations but from the get go would not work on 4 until I added "Local.GPU.Mode = OpenCL" to config.dat
Just to be clear, I did not change the GPU setting in Resolve to Metal or Cuda. I know my system doesn't support these. When I upgraded to Beta 4 Studio from Beta 3, it immediately locked me out from the first launch.
I have had this openCL card for a few years and used Resolve very successfully without it. I realise it is old and out of date but don't have the several thousand dollars necessary to get a new card or system. I just put up with the long render times: gives me a chance to get away from the computer so I consider it a good thing.
I did used to have an Nvidia card a few years ago and ran the openCL and Cuda simultaneously so it's entirely possible the preference was set to Cuda from way back then and previous Resolve releases ignored this preference.
It was quite surprising that I had done an extensive colour session the day before on Beta 3 and when upgrading to Beta 4 Studio I couldn't get it to open until I googled the "config.dat" solution. A new less savvy user might get a rather negative impression if this was their initial exposure to Resolve is the reason I submitted a post, to determine if this was a previous setting or a bug which was the cause of it.
Thanks again!
