Crash on startup on new MBP

Hi

I have been trying to install Resolve on a brandnew MacBook Pro all afternoon. Tried version 14.3, then 14.2.1, then 12.5, then 15.

14 and 15 show the same crash: At first start I get the project manager without any database available, so I try to create a new Disk DB. Upon setting name and save location and pressing okay Resolve freezes on the project manager window. On the next start the splash screen freezes at "Ready"...

Tried several re-installs, trashed all Support files I could find in between reinstalls.

Tried installing version 14.3 from App store. Freezes at "Ready".

Tried installing version 13, it just crashed at the splash screen (it just disappears and nothing happens)

What's going on? Don't know what to do. Need Resolve on a job next week!
Please help!

macOS Sierra
10.13.4 (17E199)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 RAM
Radeon Pro 560 4096 MB

BTW the option to create a new database only presented itself on the first startup for each version I tried. Once I have tried to create a new DB (and crashed), from now on Resolve always freezes on "Ready" on the splash screen, even if I uninstall, trash App support files and Prefs and re-install with the same version. I do not get presented with the project manager ever again. That makes me think that there are some prefs left on the machine that I can't seem to find...

I'm not sure what's going on, but something is odd.

You only have 1 log file. As if Resolve has never been on this system before.

Yet your database list file has several databases listed. Which implies Resolve has been on the system doing a lot.

So what's actually going on with this system and it's Resolve history?

If you are sure there is no previous Resolve data on the system you care about, I would advise you to use the Resolve Uninstall app in the Resolve folder in Applications.

Then Trash the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder and the /Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve folder.

Then install 15b4 and it should work.

Thanks Dwaine.

Unfortunately, those are exactly the steps I have taken before and it does not lead to me being able to re-install.

The db names listed in the log file are all names I tried to use on previous install attempts, one of which was an attempt to import a db from my old machine (but that didn't work either). Somehow Resolve must know about these databases and looks for them, despite me removing all of those files you mention and using the Uninstaller in between installs.

Every time I used a new installer for a different version, I was prompted to install a new db, which I tried to do, upon which Resolve froze. On every subsequent attempt with that same installer (even after full clean-up as you suggest) I do not even get to the project manager. Resolve seems to look for those dbs (which are either not there or were crashed on install) even though i trashed the prefs. Interestingly, I observed that the location in which I tried to save a db on first install does not exist after the crash, however, on the next startup this folder gets created on the drive. I did delete those folders though before I tried a new install btw.

Scratching my head...

I have attached another crash report from v12.5:

This one seems to be different. OpenGL issue?

I'd be happy to install 12.5 for now cause I have found out that's the version that's used on the job next week...

Any suggestions?

The db names I mentioned are in the Preferences folder dblist.conf file.

Which means you didn't trash and recreate the Preferences path.

However, in your latest log, those are gone. So I guess you have done that now.

I see you loaded 12.5.1 after you tried 14.3.

12.5.1 will not run under High Sierra. You have to use at least 12.5.6.

So, you can try 12.5.6 and see what happens. Or try 15b4, and see what that does.

I decided to do a clean install of High Sierra and now it works. All good.

Thanks Dwaine for your help. Really appreciate it!
