Feedback on Davinci Resolve 15 b5:

Windows 10 Pro, AMD Threadripper 1950 (16/32), NVidia GTX 1080, 4K Res

1. I have a project with 10 parallel video clips. I created a compound clips of them all. Is there a reason I cant add a transition on a compound clip into another compound clip?

2. Overall performance with multiple concurrent clips is poor. Smart rendering takes forever even though my GPU perf is hovering around 30% and total CPU is down around 15% (no spikes above 35%/20% respectively) - there's a lot of unused computing power that could be leveraged to expedite smart rendering - on a new playback of the timeline I can barely sustain 9 fps. It seems like the CPU/GPU rendering pipeline/operations are being starved. Id like smart rendering to kick in a little sooner.

3. I lost audio output at one point this morning - no meters registered sound and obviously no sound came from the speakers. Closed and restarted Davinci Resolve and the sound was back. I tried to reproduce this but havent yet. I checked the obvious things like system volume, track solo/mutes, main mix solo/mute. I could play sounds from outside of Davinci (I checked with VLC).

4. Are there are any tools to assist with layout/alignment/spacing of multiple clips within a single larger timeline (eg. 720p/1080p clips within a 4K timeline). Right now Im transforming everything manually and setting the XY position - but this is really slow when I just want to evenly space/distributed/align the clips within the single timeline. Maybe this feature is there and I havent found it yet.

5. A feature/config/setting search function within the program would be incredibly helpful - Id like to be able to search for keywords/features and then have Davinci show me which menu/sub-menu/button the setting/feature lives on. Ive seen a lot of features on tutorials and examples so I know Davinci can do what I want - its just a question of finding where they are.

1. because you haven't given the compound clip any handles. Make it longer to include room for transitions, then trim it down

5. does the help menu on Windows not include a search feature?

It does indeed. I use it frequently.

On MacOS the help menu has a search function as the first option, which allows you to type in any word or portion of a word and it will show you any menu commands that include your search terms. You can then click on them to activate the command, or hover over them and it will reveal (with a nice animated marker) exactly where the command lives and any related keyboard shortcut:

This is not even a Resolve thing, you get this with all apps on MacOS :D

In the Windows version of Resolve, under the help menu, you can open the manual as a pdf. Then you can search using your pdf reader’s command.

That's not quite what Im after - several other NLEs have a set of operations that will layout various objects/clips on screen. Say I have a series of 720p clips that I want to show concurrently - Id be able to select a set of them and have Resolve auto-distribute them across the view (say a 4K view).

Im asking for a built in single editor search - not having to go outside to load up a PDF. Im not looking for the explanation, just the command/menu location. Having to leave the editor to go to a PDF viewer impedes workflow. :-)

My Mac laptop has this feature but I believe thats a feature of OS X, not the Mac build of Resolve.
