Certain effects not playing back in real time

Hello,

I currently use adobe premiere and I don't want to continue using it. I can do basic editing like cut, fade etc and that plays back in real time even proxy mode turned off. But as soon as I add an effect like film grain or some heavy intensive effect in the editor timeline nothing will play. I have turned render cache and let it render and it still won't play even with proxy mode on with the effect turned on. As soon as I shut the effect the clip plays back fine. I have also tried making optimized media for the clip I am using in the timeline and that still won't play back with the effect added.

Basically I'm trying different effects to see if I want to use this and even basic effects aren't playing back.

This is on my desktop PC and my media is on a SSD which is 2TB capacity and only 500GB have been used up so far as I Imported a several clips to test.

What is really weird is I have a windows 10 laptop and the same exact effect with the same exact clips playback in real time with no proxy on or optimized media. The clips are .mts files and also I have some .mp4 files.

Why would a Desktop PC have issues playing back media but a laptop doesn't?

Here are the specs of my Desktop PC and Laptop.

Desktop

intel quad core i7

16GB of ram

8GB of video ram graphic card nvidia m4000

windows 10 OS is installed on an internal SSD and media files are on a separate internal SSD with cache files on another internal SSD.

Specs of Laptop

Intel quad core 17

16GB of ram

6GB of video ram graphic card Nvidia GTX 10 series

Windows 10 OS on internal SSD

Media files on External USB 3 SSD with render cache on same external USB 3 SSD

Someone mentioned to me that if I bought the studio version the playback issues would be fixed but I'm not convinced of this since it works on my laptop with the free version.

There anyone that can help me?

I just tried it again today. Same clip which is 5 min with the film damage effect on is dropping frames in every proxy mode setting and even once rendered with proxy off. It's a .mts clip. I also tried another clip which was .mp4 same problem. I even made sure that render cache open FX for the film damage effect was turn on and it fully rendered with the blue line at the top of the clip.

This same effect with the same settings plays back in proxy and proxy off on my laptop just fine.

Free or Studio Resolve? What exact version (as shown in About DaVinci Resolve)?

select manually the gpu also if you have just one installed + Cuda...no Auto.
I work super smooth with this settings also with an old gtx780Ti.
Use same Nvidia drivers for both systems, check if Windows is updating, it happens every two weeks and freezes your system.
Generally Resolve uses massively the gpu. I don’t know if your Quadro card is ok.

regards

That card is substandard in 2018, I would replace it.

While that may be technically true, it sounds crazy, doesn't it?

Do you have cache on?
