R15b5 : FUSION : Track Hanging

PostMon Jun 25, 2018 12:48 am

Are there any tips on how to increase the chance of a FUSION Tab CameraTrack being able to Solve the Auto Track without Hanging?

+) I've tried using lower resolution footage (eg 1080p footage from an Ipad)
+) I've tried using short clips (eg 100 frames)
+) I've tried limiting to Track points to those with a minimum track length of 15 & 300ish track points

Symptoms:
+) When Solve is clicked -> popup shows progress to 99% -> the Popup Closes
+) Resolve then hangs (ie no 'Solve Error' is calculated - and processing continues indefinitely - mostly on one core)

MISC : I note that FUSION is able to process shorter clips (say 15-30 frames).
It just struggles when the clip is more than couple of seconds.

Has anyone else had any success with FUSION Tracking inside Resolve?

Same here, 2017 iMac with 32 GB RAM and 8 GB VRAM.

Get's trough the tracking, but crashes after "Solve". The bug in the progress bar exists in Fusion 9 too, but there you don't get a crash after that.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

My tracker hangs as soon as I try either track FW or as soon as I try moving the tracker in a desired position to track.I used the tracker as a modifier for paint stroke and it crushes every time. The only reason I haven't report it yet (until I found similar posts) was because I tried that on a Mac Pro 3,1 AMD Radeon HD7950 10GB ram and blamed the low ram.
I will try it on my iMac 2017 and post the result too

200+ attempts at trying to get a TRACKER to SOLVE and Not Hang.

So far the only combination that I have found is:

+) Change from FUSION TRACKER to OPTICAL FLOW
+) Try and limit to under 40 Tracks
+) If you are tracking a clip more than 50 frames it will probably hang
+) It doesn't matter if you running Fusion in CPU or GPU.
+) It doesn't matter if you running Metal or Open CL
+) It doesn't matter if you are processing Monstro footage or Ipad
+) It doesn't help if you have 64GB of memory
+) Changing to Quarter Res Proxy reduces the chance of hang
+) Turning Caching off changed the point at which Hanging occurs.
+) Fastest way to see if it hanging is to press the Option key (eg Option S to save the project .. and then the pointer will be updated to a beachball if the App has hung)

SUMMARY : OPTICAL flow works (eventually!) [And actually didn't hang Twice in a row!]

Here's the optical flow setting ...

.. and proof that it actually solved!
