DaVinci doesn´t "see" all .mts-clips (avchd)

PostFri Jun 29, 2018 6:44 am

Hello,
I'm a beginner with DaVinci. At the moment I'm still testing the free version of the program, but I plan to buy the paid version.
To my question: I have recorded a theater performance. There are six .mts files on the SD card. DaVinci can only recognize four in the media manager. The others can not be imported (with my knowledge). A second camera has the same effect. Technically, all clips are identical. (1920x1080p, 25fps)
They were shot with a Panasonic AG-AF101E. My computer is running WIN10 Home. I tried DaVinci Resolve 12.5.6, 14.1.1 and 15.0b5. In all cases, the same clips are recognized or not recognized. I am grateful for every idea, every proposed solution.
Regards
frank

I have the same issue. Different cameras (a Canon g10 and a g20), but still .mts files.

It happens on long recordings where the size limit on the .mts files splits them into smaller pieces. When I record religious services I end up with one or two files that won't import into Davinchi Resolve.

The simple workaround is to transcode the .mts files before bringing them into Resolve.

here are two files to test:

This file will not import into Davinchi Resolve (for me):

This file is from the same services, and it imports fine:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/i8pkoll5mhou2 ... 2.MTS?dl=0

The frame rate is 60i (interlaced) if that matters.

Thanks Christian.

Hi,
The file seems to have a broken index (H264): this is the first time I see mediaInfo not being able to process a video file.

The camera has split the files, because it uses the FAT32 file structure, which only allows files up to 4Gb in size. It is normal to transfer the files to a computer from the camera using the transfer utility supplied by the manufacturer. This stitches the files together ready for use. This may be why Resolve will not recognize the files. Canons utility is called CameraWindow DC.

Thanks for your hints.
What I do not understand is the point that this error only occurs in two out of six clips. An entire performance was recorded throughout.
In a second, identical camera, there is the same effect. There are, however, clip 2 and 5 affected. Two other editing programs (finalcut and avid) import all files easily.
Maybe the DaVinci programmers can do something with these hints and maybe change something in a future version.

I currently have the same problem. Sometimes when I want unlimited recording on my Lumix TZ 110 I use the AVCHD format which breaks up into multiple mts files (maximum 4.29 GB each). In a recent recording (a wedding ceremony of about an hour) DaVinci Resolve 15 recognised files 00001& 00003 but not 00002. I can play them individually on my MBP so they are there and are functioning. This is the first time this has happened for me using AVCHD with Resolve.

I converted the 00002 file to mov using Edit Ready (but just 1 min for free version) and Resolve recognised that. (Monster file that was: 1 min = 900 MB!) Other options include importing into Photos and that will produce I think an m4v file or use iMovie.
