Resolve > FCPX > Resolve round trip workflow

Hi,

I'm working on a project in Resolve where we are working with multiple editors on a shared database.

Our initial plan for workflow was to ingest, edit, grade, and deliver the entire project in Resolve because we liked the colour workflow and we needed the ability to export individual files for delivery. We've created a large database with individually labelled clips and logged metadata.

However now we're into editing and we've run into quite a few problems with the edit page. We're considering a workflow where we ingest and log all clips in Resolve, create stringout timelines, then export those timelines as xmls to another editor (i.e. FCPX or Premiere) and do our editing there. Probably no need to create Proxys, we're happy to continue working on the original media. Then we'd like to bring back those xmls to Resolve for grading and delivery.

Worth noting we're exporting xmls from the edit page - not the deliver page.

A few tests have revealed this is harder than it looks - there are translation issues in both Premiere and FCPX. There aren't any transitions or effects that we used - it's a very simple timeline with 4 tracks of audio. Our main concern is that the two mix tracks, the boom track, and the radio mic track have all come as 4 tracks of the same thing and it sounds like camera audio.

Does anyone have experience with this type of workflow and would they recommend it?

Thanks

Resolve only exports original clip audio when using 'individual clips' render mode on the deliver page. The most efficient way is to ingest and log in fcpx, edit, then export xml for Resolve finishing. I'm still not comfortable with Resolve as a final finishing app, so I grade and export video only clips back to fcpx for final effects and audio. I'm hoping that Resolve will improve and I can use it for the whole post-production process, but I use a lot of effects and templates in fcpx that I build in Apple Motion. Resolve is still not quite ready to replace fcpx, Avid or Premiere.

Well, I had been thinking the same for long, but actually it is...
I also have a huge bunch of Motion templates, but in the end, Resolve can replace any NLE only if you really wishes it does. For ex., since no roundtrip is available any more between Motion and FCPX (right ?), I don't think that exporting motion graphics and animations (to import in the media pool) are such a pain anymore.
So I just wanted to add this point of view... Even if some specific stuff are not satisfyingso far, I really think Resolve can do the finishing job now.
