15b6: audio now broken

After upgrading to b6 (non-Studio version) it looks like all audio is now broken.

No projects play audio. The meters don't even move. Also previewing video files in the media panel show the same result: no audio, no meters.

Is it just me?

Windows 10 x64 1709 (build 16299.492), 8700K, 64GB, NVIDIA 1080 Ti, RME Babyface Pro audio interface.

Is it the speaker output? Or the meters response? Can you play back audio in the source viewer?

Is it a new project or an upgraded one?

Could you post a screen of your speaker setup preferences?

It doesn't seem to be an issue with speaker output because the meters don't even move.

Both previous projects (saved with b5) and new projects have the problem. The waveform on the audio track shows, but on playback the meters don't move and there's no sound. Media source viewer had same behavior.

Volume is full, not dimmed, and all tracks are at unity and unmuted.

Screenshot of my speaker settings:

(This is correct: ADAT (3+4) is my system device.)

I changed speaker configuration to Manual, and configured the device accordingly. Suddenly audio works. I changed speaker config BACK to Use System Setting, and audio still works. It even survives a restart of Resolve.

If this is a specific peculiarity of b5 to b6 it's not much to worry about, but I suppose the bigger concern would be if this could be a user experience of upgrading from 14 to 15 final.

I have seen this before in earlier DR14 and DR15 beta releases, where there where a lot of core audio updates. I typicaly deleted my audio config, restarted resolve , redid the audio config and another restart.
Then everything was fine going forwards.

Yes Audio is broken.
Rebooted several times.
Uninstalled DaVinci.
Reinstalled Davinci.
Uninstalled Focusrite driver.
Reinstalled Focusrite driver.
NO AUDIO.

To solve this I had to set the Audio settings manually as Jason Tackaberry found out.

Win 7, Focusrite 2i2

Hi Bengt

The minimum supported specs for DaVinci Resolve 14 and 15 has always been Windows 10. Windows 7 may work in some cases, but we do not test, support or recommend Windows 7.

Thank you - hmmmm - but to solve this problem I had to set the Audio settings manually as Jason Tackaberry found out. So no more problems on Win 7.

Confirmed bug!

Had to set manually the device.
Re-run Resolve.
Set device to "system settings"
and it works.

Pretty creepy though ;)

For me happened the same as you, and I managed to fix it going to the audio settings, and changing the speakers config from "Use System Setting" to "Manual" then, i went to the timeline and all the audio played correctly. After this, I changed again to "Use System Setting" and even with that worked.
I hope this little thing will help anyone who has the problem.

i experienced the same thing as the OP and here's what worked for me:

a) Changed device to manual and selected the same audio hardware (as what was already "system settings"). At this point my audio worked.

b) Then I changed the setting back to "system settings" and the audio still works.

I also restarted Resolve and the audio continued to work.

Having a similar issue, however I could isolate it to LINKED AUDIO CHANNELS only and some timelines will play them without issue, others will refuse to work. Rebooting and switching around the audio devices doesn't help in case of missing Linked Channel sound output.

Anyone got a clue on what I might try?

I think broken is a big word, I would check the preferences and see how the audio is routed.
Chances are it is routed to the Decklink card while you might expect some other route.

I'm having a similar problem here, but I tried changing audio preferences and it still doesn't work.
But not every audio clip is broken for me. Just some of them. I'm talking about clips with synced audio and video. Upgrading at b6, some of this clips has no audio: I see the audio clip on timeline, volume and everything else is ok, but I don't listen and don't see the waveform in the audio mixer. And in Media pool those clips have no audio too. I see the waveform in the audio panel but i don't listen it. So i've tried to unlinking them. I can listen audio camera on video and separated audio. When i relink them, no audio again.

Someone has the same problem?

I'm having the same issue. Some audio works and some doesn't. I've tried switching the audio settings in preferences with no luck.

Ah, maybe yours is slightly different after all. In my case no audio was working at all until I did the speaker setup fiddling.

Yeah, for me, some audio clips work while others don't. I don't have any levels for the ones not working, however, they appear fine in my timeline--waves and unmuted.

I personally haven't found a file I couldn't play yet after an extreme deep clean.

The DR uninstaller leaves in place the registry keys that associate it with audio and video playback devices. The installer subsequently sees that the key's are in place and doesn't replace them. Problem is the registry keys refer to a different version number. Not to imply this is the only issue, just what it seemed to be for me. This is why changing to manual and back to system fixes it for most people.

This should not be confused with what most of us were experiencing prior to B6. Prior to B6 I had all sorts of decoder errors show up in the logs. Since my issues were so vast I went through my registry and removed all keys that had the word Blackmagic in them. And keys referencing other NLE's that had since been uninstalled. Except of course the handful referencing the installer files I have archived.

I Couldn't tell you if B6 was the fix or if the registry cleaning was the fix as my install was corrupted to the point the Panel install was corrupted and the installer wouldn't fix it or install overtop. Not that I need the panels, but I used that as a sign of further corruption. Fairlight was also corrupted. Left that accelerator uninstalled for now.

it's very scary, all the project have some clips syncronized without audio...have a wave form, in media play you can see the wave form, but not audio comes out, even if the clip next it's sound ok and it's just the same of the one that doesn't play!!!

Hi, found the same problem, that immediately after an upgrade to Studio Beta 6, no sound was played and no meter levels showing.

Steps to Resolve
1) I went to Preferences/Video and Audio IO/Speaker Setup, and changed from Use System Settings to Manual, and left the other settings unchanged. This fixed the issue.
2) I then changed back to Use System Settings, and the audio continued to function normally.

Hope that helps.

Hi! Unfortunately this fix hasn't worked for everyone. I could switch the sound device around and restart it no matter in which combination and also a clean re-installation was unsuccessful. Saw some other users who couldn't fix it like that aswell.

:::UPDATE:::
I tried to change/reset my audio output settings and this did not solve the issue.

I'm Running into a similar issue...

Windows 10 most current updates installed.

All my audio tracks are from a Synced Audio Source and not from camera original.
Most audio in my timeline will playback fine but current testing, I have 1 or 2 clips whose audio won't playback.
I checked the original audio track in the source viewer and it plays back with no issue, I can even edit the separated audio track into the same timeline and the newly edited audio plays back, however, the audio that is synced to the clip that is edited into the timeline won't playback in the timeline or when I match frame and clip is in source viewer... no audio playback.

I will try changing around preferences again and see if this helps. Good to see I'm not the only one have this issue with 15b6

I recently installed DaVinci Resolve Beta 6 to Intel Hades Canyon. Similar to others, I have NO sound at all. Previously I did have sound with Beta5 on Intel Skull Canyon (recently sold).

I am running Windows 10 Latest Insider's Preview Build 17713.

One thing I found was when my audio recorder produced ISO+mix tracks in the WAV file, those clips played fine when synced with video. When I set my recorder to just save the stereo mix in the WAV file, it was muted in Resolve when autosynced with a video file.

I have this same problem! No meters, no sound, but the waveform is there and the playhead is moving, but no sound at all! massively frustrating when trying to do sound design! How does this happen??

Same issue here on synced audio tracks on a Mac pro. No amount of changing monitoring will make it play.

Try a complete, thorough uninstall of the existing installation of Resolve then do a clean reinstall of beta6 and see if that works. I don't know the reason why but I now have audio.

You can download it from:
