Crash of 14.3 on mac Sierra new installation

PostThu Jul 05, 2018 10:55 pm

I just installed Resolve 14.3 on my mac mini running Sierra. Yes, the machine may be a bit underpowered, but I have a quad-core i7 with 16GB RAM, the Intel HD 4000 GPU, and internal and external SSD storage. I used the website installer and got the two green checkmarks for CPU and GPU. I'm planning only small simple projects.

I downloaded the MixingLight tutorials and in following along am running Resolve, but it crashes periodically when I select an arbitrary item, but not the same item each time. The project is only 1080p and the crash manifests as Resolve simply disappearing in an instant.

The support center lists some requirements. I was assuming the standard installer would take care of these, am I wrong? If the following need to be installed separately how do I accomplish this and/or how to check if they are installed?

In System Information/Software/Extensions I see several NVIDIA drivers, but no RED or CUDA, and none are found in ../Components or ../Frameworks, either (which should give you an idea of how clueless I am.)

CUDA Driver version 8.0.63
NVIDIA Driver version - As required by your GPU
RED Rocket-X Driver 2.1.34.0 and Firmware 1.4.22.18 or later
RED Rocket Driver 2.1.23.0 and Firmware 1.1.18.0 or later

Thanks for any help. I did try to search the forum first, but didn't find anything relevant.

The Intel HD4000 is not really adequate. How much VRAM does it have?

If I'm reading this right, it has 1536 MB.

It has 1 GB VRAM. I'd go for Resolve 12.5.6 on that machine and it should be usable, my son is playing with video editing on such a config.

You may need to restrict your timeline to 1280 by 720 to really enjoy the program. Please understand that a powerful GPU is the core hardware for most tasks in Resolve.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Thanks for that info Uli. Sigh.
