How do I view stacked timelines?

How do I setup and view stacked timelines? I've tried looking for it in the interface, but, I must have missed a dropdown menu or two.

Thanks in advance.

It's an option in the same menu as the timeline view options, where you choose whether or not to show waveforms, and scale the thumbnails and all.

It took me a while to find it also, I was expecting to find it in a preferences menu or something. This way though it's really easy to turn it on and off as needed.

I just looked, and you have to select Tabbed timelines from the drop down, then on the FAR RIGHT of the tabs there is a "+" and "-" to add a Stacked Timeline. But, you can't add a stacked timeline if ALL of your timelines are showing in the Tabbed section. So, you have remove a tabbed timeline, and then add a stacked timeline, and choose the "open" timeline from the dropdown list on the LEFT side.

Funny, that I couldn't find it in the manual. Unless they updated the manual for the beta v6.

To be honest, I think I found out how to enable them from a youtube video showing the new features in v15. :)

The manual does need updating, but given how big an update this one is plus the fact that's still in progress, it's probably going to be a massive update :)

Yea, I'm always scouring YouTube for new Resolve tutorials. I love these new tabbed and stacked timelines. It really helps speed up the creation and process, and lets me work in a stream of consciousness mode sometimes.

Agreed... it's a great feature, and I like how it works already. I haven't used it a lot so far, but that will change soon when I get back to doing some editing that's been on hold while I was finishing a feature.

Sounds great. Let us know what feature when you're done. I'd love to see it. :)

I'm uploading it to the distribution service (Distribber) right now, which is going to take close to a week with my pitiful internet connection. Once it's up they estimate that it will be available on Amazon by October if all goes well.

This is our early trailer in the mean time. :)

Very cool. Are you the DP on it?

Rakesh, sorry to bother. I looked at the trailer and while I like where it is going, I got distracted by two things:

1) the blacks in the piece are tinted, i have no issue with that, but shot to shot they go from magenta to blue to red to neutral: is it a choice or you need a bit more finesse?

2) there are shots (like the African american guy with the BFG) that don't fit contrast/style wise (it look flat, almost from another move): again, is it a choice or you need a bit more finesse?

Thanks, Jean. Yes, I discovered the path to setup the stacked timelines when I went back into Resolve and opened the tabbed timelines. That's when I saw those "+" and "-" buttons on the right.

Love this feature. If Avid doesn't have this, you know it probably will eventually. It's a great feature to have.

One thing I've added to my workflow is to create a timeline specifically for syncing audio to its related video clip. I call the timeline, "Sync Here". After I sync the sound with video, and link them together, I move the clip to the main timeline for editing. I don't know if this approach makes sense, but it's working for me right now.

I'm currently shooting behind the scenes for a feature film, so I'm in Resolve on a daily basis. I can't wait until the final version of Resolve 15 comes out. I know there will always be bug fixes, but, a stable version will be great.

Great,

My wish is that one day there is a "GANG TIMELINE" when one is stacked TL ... Maybe V16? :)

What exactly do you mean by "gang timeline"? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the term.

Are you talking about floating timelines so we can see them in separate monitors?

Right now I'm working with my 27" iMac Pro, with the Atomos Sumo 19" monitor to view for editing and grading.

This is covered in the New Features guide that ships with the Resolve 15 Betas.

Alexis Van Hurkman just completed a new Ripple Training video tutorial that goes over the new features in depth, and I think it'll be out soon.

Thanks, Marc. I love Ripple Training. I've bought most of their DaVinci Resolve training videos. So, it's exciting to hear they have videos for v15 coming soon.
