Resolve workflow with Ursa Mini Pro prores4444 4k 'film'

PostMon Jul 16, 2018 10:32 pm

I've been using the color management system for a while now and I love it! Way better than using lossy input LUTs. I've just upgraded to the ursa mini pro 4.6k and I'm primarily shooting in the prores 4444 4K in film mode. Under the DaVinci YRGB Color Managed section I chose Black Magic Design 4k Film version3 and output to rec709 gamma 2.4, but it seems to compress the already log footage. When I try to correct exposure and contrast I have considerable trouble, like there's been an irreversible loss of data through the conversion?

When I add a new node and pick the LUT Black Magic Cinema Camera Film to Rec709 it seems to work better but it takes considerable tweaking to get it where it needs to be. I'm working in resolve 15 and there's no ursa mini pro film input color space or gamma? I know I must be missing something obvious here, but I've dug through the forums and I haven't found a mention of my specific problem yet.

I'll post pictures later this evening when I have a chance.

Hey guys I figured it out. I think it was just a bug because everything is working now. When I went in to get screenshots I went through the correction/grade fresh and it worked with the BlackMagic film 4K v3 perfectly!

The BMD Film 4K LUT is for 4K sensors, like the URSA and the URSA Mini 4K. For the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K, you should use 4.6K colour science because the sensor is different. The 4K does not refer to the resolution of the footage but which sensor was used to record.
