Suggestions from an editor's viewpoint

PostTue Jul 17, 2018 11:58 am

I would like to point out some minor fixes that I believe would greatly enhance the editing experience with dissolve, especially for experienced users.

1)I prefer using the "slim view" when editing because I find the thumbnails distract my gaze from the viewers, it would be great to have access to the little white faders in the corners (in out) from this view.

2)A shortcut to "display waveform" would also be greatly appreciated.

3)I feel every time I make a selection in this panel I have to rearrange my timeline view, as if it is being reset, and i have to fix the layout again. Maybe a save timeline view could be implemented.

4) Access to transition key frames/ curves from said "slim" timeline view.

4a) default bezier selection when adding key frames with alt click, and a slightly better and bigger handle orientation would be useful. Or a persisting choice that doesn't always revert to linear.

5)Render this selection or button please!!!!!!!!!!(with time estimate)

6) editing all keyboard shortcuts menu commands etc, of all menus presets selection. Currently some shortcuts are not selected in my saved presets and I have to fiddle with the txt file.

7) Identifiable markers in the filenames of rendered files and optimized media linking to a clip or project. Or a separate tool that does this? maybe. I recently discovered there is a info.txt file in the Cacheclip location that can be quite helpful. (edited)

8) Stretch/shrink to fit selection. (when using overwrite, 4 points, and in out duration of source and edit don't match, implies changing clip speed)

9) I have posted this before elsewhere, but we over analytical types like to see clip duration on the clip beside the name in the timeline. ( I suppose it is difficult to implement this to be interactive with all the trim tools, maybe a selection with a shortcut like show clip duration by pressing a key).

10) Some kind of indication of the speed when using the speed ramp/re-time curve.

That's it for now (If there are workarounds, or limitations of the free version, please tell)

I have just discovered the info.txt file in the render cache location which identifies the database user of the folder it resides in. I suppose I can identify cache files from older and obsolete projects in order to delete them and free up space on the drives. Edited the above post.
