Switched from Apple to Windows - Seeking overall help

I was previously on Apple (macOS Sierra 10.12.6) using Davinci Resolve Public Beta 15 (Version 15.0.0B.057). I'm now using a PC (Windows 10 Home Version 1709).

1) I'm trying to calibrate the settings to be as similar as my previous settings on the Apple machine.
In the Project Settings > Capture and Playback, my Codec was Apple ProRes 422 HQ. I'm not sure which variation of the DNxHD codec to use now. DNxHD 1080p 444? DNxHD 1080p 220/185/175 10-bit? I'm not sure which one is most similar to the Apple ProRes 422 HQ. I'm mostly editing and exporting 1080 footage.

2) I backed up the local database on the Apple machine and I restored it on the Windows machine. When I try to open a project, dialogue boxes pop up and say "Davinci Resolve does not have write permissions for the selected cache path" and also for the "capture path." When I go into the Project Settings > Master Settings, what is the default Working Folders directory path that Davinci Resolve should have automatically chosen during installation? Mine currently direct to the "C:/Users/Me/Videos" I feel like I did something wrong because I found Davinci Resolve related folders in two separate locations. For example, I see a "Resolve Projects" folder on my desktop (could this be from the local database that I restored?). I also see a "Davinci Resolve Panels" folder in my "Program Files (x86)" folder. I guess I'd like to know where should my Cache, Capture, and Gallery paths direct to?

Take care, slow down and do a little reading; most of this is google-able. Yeah, the Win10 jump can be very weird at first. My 2cents:

1) see https://support.atomos.com/hc/en-us/art ... -and-CDNG-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_ProRes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNxHR_codec
DNxHD 1080p 220/185/175 10-bit will be fine.

2) Either mac or win, I don't put any DBs or media on the system drive. I use different drives like this:
E: Video 1 (a Raid for working projects)
F: Video 2 (Disk for archives).
At the top dir of both drives I have dirs for 'Resolve 1' and 'Resolve 2' respectively.
Then under Resolve's home button I make a DB for 'video1' and point it at the 'Resolve 1' dir; ditto for a DB for 'video2' and the 'Resolve 2' dir - ie, each on separate disks, nothing on the system disk. In fact, after creating these DBs I delete 'Local Database'.
After that, under the gear /prefs I then point all of Cache files location, Gallery Stills location and Capture location to Resolve 1 (ie the working projects' location).

Media can then go anywhere on the drive; all of the files are otherwise viewable in these dirs and everything is pretty clear. Later backup, export, archive also works clearly for me. I stay away from the system disk on either platform. Hope that helps.

Thank you Paul. Am I understanding correctly? You have a separate drive that's used exclusively for your current projects (E Drive aka Video 1) and the first item on that drive is a folder named "Resolve 1"?

Then in Resolve, you create a database named "video1" and point it to "Resolve 1" (along with the cache, capture, and stills locations)?

Maybe try something simpler first? If your system drive is reasonably fast put your database there, which is also where Resolve puts the default Local Database. Cache, capture and stills can go on any data disk, for starters.

I can't make sense of your db trouble, as you've explained it. The simplest thing may be, if you still have access to the Mac, export a .drp for each project, then create a new database (or use the default Local Database) on the Windows system. Then, using the db manager, import or drag/drop those .drps into it. You don't "point" databases to any particular media drive or location, except when you're connecting to the physical location of the db for the first time.

BTW, you might want to put questions of this nature in another section. This one is for feedback on the beta.

Thank you John. I appreciate the clarity and suggestion with dragging/dropping the Mac version .drp files. I'll give that a try and leave this thread since this wasn't a Beta version issue.
