HELP: Clips not rendering at editing point

PostMon Jul 23, 2018 10:02 am

I'm trying to deliver an edited music video out of Resolve but I'm having a strange and very annoying problem.

Several of the clips do not seem to be rendering at their edit points in the timeline (red bar above), so the video is exporting with 1-5 frames of black between the edits of the affected clips.

I've tried resetting and extending the in/out points for these clips in the media browser and then trimming the clip back to the desired edit point in the timeline. I've tried shifting the clips backwards and forwards within their in/out points in the timeline. I've tried overlapping the clips, extending their in/out points, then slicing the excess back to the desired edit point.

The clips have film grain applied to them in the Fusion tab. I've tried deleting and reapplying the film grain.

Sometimes one of these methods will fix the unrendered sections, other times it will do nothing or cause the unrendered section to effect the previous/following clip.

Can anybody recommend a sure way of fixing this? It's really starting to affect my edit/timeline and it's driving me a little mad.

Thanks!

Could you send us a link to an exported project (drp) file?

Do you see the same issues if you use ResolveFX Film Grain in the Color page instead?

Thanks

Thanks Shrinivas.

I've put an exported drp in my Dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0m38injfr040d ... n.drp?dl=0

I've now applied ResolveFX Film Grain in the Color page but it doesn't appear to be making any difference.

I seem to have found a work around but it's not ideal.

I've added a second video track and am splitting the affected clips between V1 and V2. It seems to be rendering fine now.

When I slip the problematic edit points in the timeline the unrendered section jumps back and forth between the adjoining clips. While I'm sure there's a much more technical explanation than this, what it feels like is happening is that there's a miscommunication between the in/out points of the individual clips and the edit point in the timeline, whereby the timing of the edit point falls on an active frame of one of the clips. So because the edit point won't fall in line between frames, the clip is instead keeping the edit point but dropping the frame.

I'm sure I'm completely wrong, but that's what it feels like.

Ignore the above "work around", it didn't work.

The problem was with the Fusion Film Grain, and I had to delete the Film Grain node as well as the Media In/Out nodes in the Fusion tab for all clips in order to stop the edit points from blacking out on the export.
