Rendering a Project Seems Very Tough on my Macbook Pro

PostMon Jul 23, 2018 1:31 pm

Hey there,

I am new here (and to DaVinci Resolve for the most part), so nice to meet you all. I've had experience with Premier, but haven't used it in a bit.

Anyway, it seems that whenever I render a project in the render queue my computer gets alarmingly hot and sounds like it's about ready to blow itself up. I have a 2016 13" MacBook Pro. 2 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8gb RAM, and Intel Iris Graphics 540 graphics card.

I just rendered a 4 minute 1080p H.264 video last night. It rendered reasonably quickly, but my computer did not sound happy. I am wondering if there are any render settings that might reduce the load on my computer but still produce the same quality video. I am ok with the render taking longer.

Let me know if you have any suggestions, thanks!

In Deliver, under the third tab "File" you can reduce the render speed.

BTW, there is an app called TG Pro which helps in monitoring temperatures and speeding up the fans.

It's a shame that those sleek MacBooks don't have proper thermal management. And it got eve worse with the most recent i9 model :-(
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Thanks Uli! That's great info, still getting used to the UI in Resolve. Also, the TG Pro app is cool, even if you don't know exactly what all is on screen the metrics are just kinda fun to look at.

Thanks again for the help!
