I have just purchased Resolve and I have been using LightWorks.
I have a canon camera XF200 it produces 50fps i MXF files.
Using Light Works I have no problem importing files.
However Resolve does not seem to like the format, it produces big blocks on highlights like Lego.
I have tried converting to MP4 files , but I get the same problem.
Has anyone got the same camera and been successful?

Yes I have the bought version studio 15 and I run it on windows 10.
The distortion is most noticeable on high lights in the scene.
I shot the font of a building with white windows and it is severe even on a slow pan.
I have looked in the setup and menus, but no success.

In that case I think i need a sample of the source and a render frame that shows result you are no happy with.

I have put the original MFX file into LightWorks and Resolve, cut a few seconds of a clip and exported it to MP4.
Resolve distorts in the preview window in editing, also it generates a larger clip.

It seems to me that the second video was incorrectly converted from interlaced to progressive.

Was the original out of camera footage mpeg-2 interlaced? If so, I don't think Resolve reads mpeg-2.

If you want to transcode the mpeg-2 to mpeg-4 you need to make sure to transcode it interlaced or deinterlace and transcode it to progressive.

It's definitely an interlace problem. The first clip is treated as progressive, but shows interpolated lines, causing stairstepping. Plus, in progressive the pan speed is too high (and exposure time too short) for any good looking pan.

I'd suggest as a basic solution to set the "Clip Attributes" accordingly. But IMHO there are better de-interlacers than Resolve, like FiedsKit.

I shot the clips to exaggerate the problem.
Searching the Canon site I found they provide some fx plugins, but not for Resolve.
Light Works is seamless and gives a good result to the test.

So use Lightworks and pass it over for color grading to DR – but not in H.264

I have just tried to import a few old recordings from my Canon XF100!

No problems !

1. Recording from Turkey is recorded at 50Mbps: 1920 x 1080 / 25p

2. Recording from London is recorded at 50Mbps: 1920 x 1080 / 50i

You have an interlaced source, so if you want to deliver some web content out of it you need to deinterlace it.
Lightwork's result is very poor. Resolve final mp4 kept interlaced nature, but this is not what you want either.

You have to enable in Clip Properties Deinterlace and set its quality to High in project's Image Scaling settings.
The best is to shoot 50p next time if your camera can do it.
