All projects gone after installing DR 15 b6

PostTue Jul 24, 2018 2:43 pm

So I was just finishing up 7 hours of editing in DR14 and I thought I'd try out the audio noise reduction feature I saw a video on in DR 15 b6. So I went and downloaded it from the site and installed it. After opening DR15 it didn't prompt me with projects to open like I'm used to on DR14. So I found the project manager in the File menu. But after clicking it I was greeted with a void of nothingness. All I'm seeing is Untitled Project.

I did a quick google and found the database location on my mac: Root/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Davinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database/Resolve Projects/Users/my user
but when I go there the database is only 903kb....

Did I just lose all my projects? I looked in the trash bin but there's nothing there. I also didn't get a question to upgrade the old database to DR15 when I started DR15.

I hope somehow it's still somewhere....

Oh yeah DR14 I downloaded from the Mac AppStore. Don't know if that somehow makes a difference.

I did some more digging and I found my old database. There was this older post that had the answer.
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=65143

Basically have a look over here:
Code: Select all
/Users/Username/Library/Containers/com.blackmagic-design.DaVinciResolveAppStore/Data/Library/Application Support/Resolve Disk Database

The database was not saved at the location mentioned in the opening post because my old DR14 was downloaded from the AppStore. I just uninstalled DR15b6 and reinstalled DR14 from the app store and everything is back.

Posting it up here in case anyone else stumbles across this issue.

You should ALWAYS manually back up your databases before upgrading Resolve. (And should probably import them for testing first, too.)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

You know what I've seen hundreds of hard disks break and lots of people cry because the didn't have a backup and still..... Going to rethink what is important to backup now and get this sorted properly. Can't happen again.
