Need quick help - project from my audio guy crashes (logs)

PostTue Jul 24, 2018 3:11 pm

Sorry for the dramatic title but I'm in urgent need of help, as we need to deliver this movie tomorrow but ran into trouble after working on the project on different computers.

Scenario:
I've edited a movie in V15 b5, exported the project to send it with the footage to my audio guy (he can't update from b3 at his place). After some initial struggles he was working on the project just fine.
Now I want to merge his audio with my project but I can't open any of his projects. I've already tried to import and upgrade his database but it just crashes every time.

ME (15b5)
drp//diskdb
AUDIO GUY (15b3)
drp//diskdb
(upgraded database)
ME (15 b5)
CRASH

my rig: AMD R7 1700, 8x2GB RAM, RX 470, 970 Pro for Cache and DB. Unfortunately can't provide any information about his PC.

Here are the logs: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1dkKj4 ... TATjUfm0Ks

I hope someone can figure out how to import his work without rendering the audio, I'll not only be forever grateful, I might also be able to sneak you into the credits!

Best regards

Not sure if it is something you tried, or if you can even still load the project on his rig, but could you on his rig , open the project , then delete ALL video material and just keep the audio. Then export a DRP and import in your rig ?
That way you limit some of the issue that could cause a crash.
Also in this audio only export you may try create a resolve archive instead of a drp only export . This contains also all media and prevents some access / paths / permissions related issues during imports that may trigger a crash or problem on your end. Worth a try as its pure audio you need.

Also , but not seeing anything specific in the logs that reference that, but just in case, make sure he is not using any audio plugins that dont exist on your rig . 3rd party audio plugins issues can also cause crashes/import issues.

The logs seem not realy pointing to a clear definite smoking gun as far as i can see. But that is more for BM to interpret.

Hi and thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately the Audio only approach didn't work either, still crashed and we don't have the bandwith and/or time to archive the whole thing.

I too hope someone from BM might have a look at the logs and has a suggestion!

There was a database change between beta3 and beta4.

I'm not sure how your audio guy running beta3 could have loaded your project export from beta5.

I suspect that may be the root of the issue.

There should normally be no issue importing a beta3 project export .drp into beta5, as it should automatically upgrade when imported into a b5 database.

But it's very possible the b3 stuff is messed up, if somehow the b5 .drp was forced into it.

Good sense suggests that when you're working on time-critical stuff, you don't use beta software.

I'm still using DR 14 for my production stuff because it does the job and it remains 100% reliable for me.

Adrian, as Dwaine said i suspect the B5 to B3 step is the root cause. When sharing projects its best to be on the same version, particularly during beta.. now that you are in this state.. assuming you are using PostGres, i can only suggest a idea i haven't tried.

On the b3 machine with the audio, can you export the DB, then import the same DB and then optimize the imported DB on the Project manager. Then load the project and make sure it works. Then export the project for your B5 machine. Good luck.
