Order of Operations isn't always logical in Resolve

PostSat Jul 28, 2018 8:06 am

Hi,

It's kind of cool that the Open FX tools are now available inside of Fusion, but I wonder if it doesn't make understanding the order of operations inside of Resolve more difficult.

I feel that Resolve would benefit from making Fusion an effect inside of the color page, because as it is right now, it's not exactly clear when what happens. The flowchart inside of the color page would definitely help with making this more understandable and logical.

For example: for some VFX work it's useful to first denoise, then add the VFX then renoise.
If this was all part of the color page you could set it up like that

Clip-->denoise-->Fusion node where all the cool Fusion stuff happens --> grade node --> renoise--> etc
If I understand the current workflow you'd have to make compound clips/Fusion clips etc which is a shame when the flowchart in the Color Page is readily available.

It's probably a bit late to change this around now, but since BMD has never shied away from radical changes, it might be worth considering for Resolve 16?

I’d like to have a sort of flowchart on how clips are nested, compounded, color corrected, fusioned, color corrected again, etc., the video/image path is virtually infinite. At certain point we can’t understand what we created.
Also the timelines and clips should have a node approach.
On top of this structure a diagram would be very useful.
Resolve 15 modularity must be stronger.
