First I had no sound even though Tascam 20X20 was selected as out.
changed sample rate of hardware back to 96k ( PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP CHANGING THE AUDIO SAMPLE RATE !!!!!! )
I change sample rate back to 96K
I now have metallic hiss - one with HF ring in it coming out of speaker plus my regular sound
I toggle hardware in tascam control app from external word clock to internal, noise goes away. return hard to ext word clock, ok. start up resolve again R sets the hardware back to 48K... NO NO NO ! and no sound out. I reset hardware back to 96K in midi prefs, no sound from resolve.

all had been working before, now nothing.

after another round to setting hardware sample rates, **finally** its working.

there REALLY needs to be a pref to tell resolve to NOT mess with the audio hardware sample rate.

Resolve only does 24 bit 48kHz.

yes but - the drivers and or hardware will handle the same rate conversion. if you hand the driver 48K and the hardware is set to 96K, it still works because the sample rate gets converted once its been handed off from the app. So the sample rate the app is running at actually doesn't matter.

I have some apps running at 48K like resolve because they are stuck there for now, while others like Logic, PP, AE, Audition can be set to either 48 or 96 and still work fine.

Amazon Music player also had this bug. I had a email chat with them and they have made their app less aggressive about changing the sample rate.

there are a few other posts about related problems here involving USB audio interfaces not outputing sound. its frequently because... Resolve changed the audio sample rate instead of leaving it alone and trusting the driver / hardware to do its job.

this is called Trust The User. Some of us are running setups that are different. EVERY DAY, EVERY TIME I start R up I have to reset the audio sample rate back to 96K on the hardware to get sound it. its really tiring when one simple change to NOT set the hardware sample rate would fix this misery for everyone running external interfaces at not 48K.

I would like it too if Resolve dealt with audio at different sample rates.

In just about any DAW, you can create a project and pick whatever bit depth and sample rate your audio interface will handle. You can also import audio at different sample rates and bit depth and it will be resampled to match the project. Pretty much standard features.

Frustrating, I know, but polite requests will probably go further than rants.

Resolve already supports bit depths up to 32bit, along with all LPCM rates up to 384kHz, across a variety of source media formats (including lossy, lossless and uncompressed), all mixed source media able to coexist on the same Timeline.

Conversion to the Timeline target rate occurs in real-time.

Merging's Horus and Hapi units support all LPCM rates up to 384kHz, as does the Digital Audio Denmark AX32.

The Merging units also support all DSD rates up to DSD256, which the Merging Premium VAD driver supports on both Windows and OS X (and Linux). The driver is actually capable of a maximum LPCM rate of 705.6kHz, which is not currently selectable.

Merging's Pyramix supports all LPCM and DSD rates, alternatively soundBlade HD, Reaper, and Sequoia support LPCM rates up to 384kHz, along with several other workstations such as legacy Fairlight systems.

Audio workstations such as Cakewalk / Sonar, Studio One, SoundForge and Wavelab support
64bit float / 384kHz LPCM.

This is a standard aspect of Resolve, where Timelines are natively 32bit/48kHz, but still allow mixed source media with varying bit depths, sample rates, and file formats to coexist on the same Timeline.

Source media is automatically up/downsampled to the target Timeline rate of 48kHz.

In just about any DAW, you can create a project and pick whatever bit depth and sample rate your audio interface will handle.

Resolve Timelines are currently fixed to 32bit/48kHz, as illustrated in the screenshot.
Resolve currently requires the audio driver to be fixed to 48kHz for this reason.

Other rates will apparently be considered, but unfortunately it seems not to have garnered many user requests: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=47367#p394650

There are multiple valid reasons to support higher LPCM production rates within Resolve, but other focus areas appear to have been given higher priority, as is evident from the extremely long new feature (and bug fix) list for version 15.

In the mean time, as outlined in the previous post, there are several more than capable options that cater to audio production at higher LPCM rates than Resolve's current base rate.

Prepare all production source media in any of the aforementioned solutions, import in to Resolve at the native rate of the source media for mastering deliverables at 24/48kHz within Resolve.

Resolve is quite happy to send 48K to an interface where the audio interface then converts to whatever its set at either in software via driver or its own hardware. All my audio gear is word clock locked at 96K. It does work. R just needs to stop messing with the hardware sample rate and everything is much better.

ideally yes, R needs to support higher rates... which I suspect will happen when BMD has hardware which does the same, or decides to better support the capabilities of USB/TB audio interfaces
