6k render to proxys taking way to long

Hello!

I am currently working in davinci resolve 14 studio.
My workflow consists of rendering 6k material to proxy files. However the render time is taking way to long and I have to find a way to make it faster.

At the moment the render is doing 3-5 fps. Which means 3 minutes of footage takes approx 25 minutes.

Is there any tips for making the render go faster? For instance is there a way to change the display monitor to a lower resolution? Or just something to make the CPU work a bit more effectively.

Thank you!

My specs:

MacBook Pro 2017 15 inch
Processor 2,9 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Graphics Radeon Pro 460 4096 MB Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB

Since you are mentioning 6K, may I assume Red footage? That's a very demanding codec in CPU load.

A laptop is pretty weak for that, but check if all your CPU cores are running at full load. If not, try transcoding with RedCine-X, where you can start multiple threads. And, if it's R3D, you can always lower the debayering to "Half res good" or even quarter resolution for proxies.

6K RED is going to kill your laptop. Use half (our even 1/4) res debayering depending on your proxy frame size.
