Syncing audio workflow.

PostSun Aug 12, 2018 10:42 am

I just came off a shoot and the soundy gave me all the .WAV files and I need to sync them to the video.

No audio was recorded in camera. I've spent the last hour syncing up all the sound to the clips because we had a clapperboard. I've also linked the sound to the clips.

So now all my video clips are sitting in the timeline with sound but I wanna put them back into the media browser and start with a new timeline to work from.

How do I do this?

Is this the right workflow or is there something I'm missing? I've never had to do this before in DaVinci Resolve.

We shot ProRes4444 LogC on Arri Alexa. I've already applied the ArriLogC to Rec.709 LUT to all the footage and it looks sweet as.

You should sync them in the media pool so they are treated as though the audio was recorded in camera. They can then be put in any timeline and edited. Check the manual for sync workflow.

Thanks for your help so far. Just a couple of questions:

What page of the manual does it talk about audio syncing? I can't find it.

Can you sync more than one audio track to a clip? I have 3 different WAV files for each clip. 2 lapel microphones and 1 boom.

p. 270 of the new 15 manual. I don't believe that you can link more than one audio file to one video file, using the method above.

However, if you drag each clip you already synched up on the timeline into the media pool, that will create a compound clip which will contain as many A/V tracks as you've linked together. Just be sure that "linking" is on, when you drag. When you edit in those synched compound clips into new timelines, you can choose whether they appear as compound clips or "decomposed", with each original clip displayed on its own track.
