hi dwaine,
i,m posting in the hope you'll read this and please give step by step instructions as to how to uninstall COMPLETELY a resolve installation.
this is prompted by my getting 'a newer version is installed' even after uninstalling via control panel (win10 latest version)
i have searched the forum and come upon a number of posts regarding this problem, but no definitive guide as to how to overcome it, including any registry edits required, such as this one suggested in a historical post -
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve
hoping you have the time,
leslie

I'm not Dwaine, but if you use the Uninstaller application (available in the original download), it will uninstall all of the program. I believe the user files (like the Project Database) are left intact, which is by design. You can deliberately delete those in Resolve itself if you want to start with a clean slate.

And instead of calling out dudes in the forums you could contact BMD support.

hi gents...
@marc - thanks for that, but i did use the uninstaller, as per directions. the app disappeared from the control panel, but left behind the complete installation on my c: drive and when trying to reinstall 14.3 i repeatedly got the 'newer version already installed' message.
@tero - i did email support and haven't heard back. and since my original post and searches came up blank, i thought to take this approach. sorry if i offended you.

This will get rid of
everything when you check the option to Automatically remove residual files. (So be sure to back up your databases.)

Just delete C:\ProgramData\Blackmagic Design and that's most of it done. You can also delete any reference you find to "Blackmagic" in the registry (be sure to delete the relevant keys, not the individual values) by using the search function in regedit. When you're done, reboot, and you can do a fresh install of Resolve.

Hi Leslie,
I'm not Dwaine but what is the latest version that you have installed and worked? What is the latest version of your database?
Before doing any manipulation in the registry: do not forget to make a point of restoration ... it can serve.

@micha - i did that the first time around, but even so, still can't reinstall 14.3. i no longer get the 'newer version, etc' but now simply nothing when i click on resolve (other than a busy cursor for a few seconds. (i've checked under task manager but there's nothing opened there either)
@jean - 14.3 was working fine on this laptop - so when 15 rtm i thought 'why not?'. unfortunately, it stalled at loading color page, though i think that might well be down to the intel 4000hd video. so, as i wrote, i did the approved uninstall from control panel, and my troubles began ;-(
i'm still happily running 14.3 on my desktop, but am now rather wary of installing 15 till i read more reports about it.
meanwhile, i do have images of both computers, so with the laptop i could simply restore the image, but just haven't had the time...
